Almost every coach out there including Saban would tell him its one of the top ten coaching spots in the country.
Saban just rejected a $100 million contract to coach at UT.
Is Alabama another top ten coaching destination? With statues. And lake houses

Saban also said LSU shouldn't have fired miles.
I wonder why he said this? Hmmmm..... let me think on that for a minute...

Im pretty sure UT would give their top coaching candidate enough time to rebuild it.
Charlie Strong was their top candidate. Have they given him enough time?

I see his point, in a way. Mack didn't recruit well in his final years and it's obvious the players were running the program. Now, they want to fire Strong after 2.5 seasons? Lol. He's recruiting well and he's trying to turn a program around. If I'm a coach I think they are impatient and don't understand how to build a contender.

Then, why didn't Saban accept it when he could? This job is highly polarizing, and it doesn't take a genius to see it. If you don't succeed day 1, you're on the hot seat. Boosters will try to take control of the team themselves because they think they know better.
Until they can get a firm AD, this job is a death trap. Like Charlie, he might not even have the opportunity to succeed.

This can very well happen here at LSU and this fan base will be melted.

Glad to see they have moved on from bashing LSU. Giving Strong the Miles treatment now. ESPN sure does have a bleeding heart for coaches who are poor at their job.

So let me see your logic if I can. If another coach from a top ten program (who's won how many titles at bama?) refuses a job from another program that means that program is automatically NOT a top ten program?
Sure. OK.

Agree here.

You get paid millions of dollars to win. You don't win, you don't get to keep your job. It's not that difficult to understand. It's not cruel or mean. Give me a freaking break on the sob story for coaches.

He also called Austin a cesspool.
Then he's a fricking idiot.
There's plenty to sell the LSU job over Texas without stupidly badmouthing one of the greatest, cleanest, and most cultured cities in the United States.

My argument is more, how could he turn down so much money supposedly to continue coaching at a school that supposedly is on the same level. Especially since he could have become the first coach to win national championships at 3 different schools, which no coach has ever done, and live in Austin, which is also supposedly better than Tuscaloosa.
Of course, this is assuming his pay check would have been as humongous as people are saying.

Austin is FAR from a cesspool! It is one of the youngest upwardly mobile areas in the country albeit a liberal hub for millennials.
Herbstreit wasn't referring to Austin, the city, as a cesspool.
He was referring to Austin as a CFB situation for a coach being a cesspool given UT's boosters and university leadership.

They would be crazy to fire Charlie strong this year...he must have got left a real mac brown mess
Mack Brown still had 8-9 win seasons in his last three years and still went 2-1 in bowl games after his only losing season following the NC appearance. It wasn't like he was Curley Hallman. If Charlie Strong can't have one winning season in three years over there, then I can certainly see why they would fire him. Their problem is that the players absolutely love the guy. But when your team gives up 50 points to Cal and 49 to Ok. St. in consecutive weeks, it doesn't matter how much the players love you. You have to do better than that.

I want Herman at LSU just as much as most do but the reality is that if Texas goes after him as well we have a small shot at him.

It just depends on how much he is really connected to Texas and how much he wants to remain in Texas. LSU had winning seasons in the 1st year following Hallman and DiNardo. Strong might go 3 years without accomplishing that in an easier conference than the SEC and he was one of their top choices. The SEC is a conference that competitive coaches get excited about going to because of the perception that it's the best. And Tiger Stadium still has the perception of being one of the best places to play college football (along with the tailgating). And of course, at LSU, there is no competition in-state for all of Louisiana's great talent.

So now we care about what Herbstreit thinks?
not so much that i care what he says.
more that he has a voice that is heard by millions, and a lot of people give his opinion some weight.
whether or not any potential coaching candidates value his opinion on this one remains to be seen, but bet your arse they'll hear it.

Does he know the inner workings of the job at UT? Any 'big time' school will pose a challenge, but did he say why he thought this?

Correct but these idiots will just take the headline and run with their usual bashing.
