Sark hires Mike Stoops as LB coach, but angry Texas fans cause him to renege on the offer

Stoops was an analyst at Alabama.

quote:

Stoops to Texas was enough of a done deal that Stoops informed Alabama and head coach Nick Saban of his plans, said goodbyes to people around the Crimson Tide program and was expected to fly to Texas on Friday to begin the process of finding a new place to live with his wife.

A Friday morning call from Sarkisian changed those plans.

quote:

Sarkisian, the former Alabama offensive coordinator, shared during that call that he could no longer make the hire. Multiple sources referenced that backlash regarding the potential of hiring Stoops may have played a role in eliminating the possibility. AL.com had reported Thursday evening Stoops was expected to join the Texas staff as linebackers coach.

Well, looks like Sark has found out quickly who runs the show at Texas

That's why Saban backed out on his 10mil/yr deal with them years ago. He liked the program and the facilities and the overall environment, but he felt that the boosters and certain power players had way too much control over the program and the head coach's decisions.

Surely the "backlash" wasn't simply because his last name is Stoops is it? That would be unreal.

Apparently that was it. The Sooner hate is real.

Well... damn.

Why can't we have such problems. If Buddy Tulane Ryan or Dave Ole Miss Wannstedt walked through the door I would burn shite down if they shooed them away.

And if he's said his goodbyes at Gumpville, he can just send his letter of introduction to one AD named Woodward.

SEC Rant thread

Appears he has photos wearing a MAGA hat. Ridiculous that’s an issue, but that’s the world we live in.

I guess a MAGA hat trumps (lol) burnt orange.

I'll tell you one thing, if it brings a repeat of 2019 I could give zero fricks.

If Brady was a scientologist who performed fellatio on goats while wearing real fur, using N Dakota crude as lube, Nancy Pelosi doing the filming, and Mitch McConnell was standing there coaching him on oral technique I wouldn't care.

All I want for Labor Day present is a promise to cut our pass defense ranking down to the 30's from the 120's. That's all. Satan himself can coach the DL for all I care. As long as they affect the QB.

We'd have a HELL of a pass rush

Good ole Texas boosters still driving the ship.

ETA: Nevermind, I guess it was because of the MAGA hat. Still, would it shock anyone if Texas boosters tried to prevent Sark from hiring a Stoops for his staff?
