Has anyone noticed how many black head coaches have been hired....

...this offseason? If you haven't, then it is probably a good thing and shows that we are maybe moving (slowly) to a more colorblind society.
So far, schools such as Louisville, Kansas, Kentucky, Memphis, Virginia, Western Kentucky, etc. have hired black head coaches this offseason. These are some pretty good programs and many are in BCS conferences.
I am glad these schools have all done hired these coaches based on merit with being forced to by any rules or legislation. While certain groups were clamoring for legislation to force schools to hire black coaches or interview them, at a minimum, I was hoping it would take its natural course.
Just as it took time for teams to accept that blacks could play QB, it is going to take time for teams to accept that blacks can coach major college football teams. As more black assistant coaches have become coordinators, the pool of potential black head coaches has gotten larger. And as the black coaches hired this offseason become more and more successful, future opportunities will become available for those coordinators.
College football is big business these days. A football program can no longer afford to overlook a well-qualified coach because of his skin color.

A black will become a HC alot sooner if he does not have a white wife as per the new hires at Louisville and Kansas. The wife combo is a tough sell to the alums and boosters at most schools.

TIME wont do it, winning records and Championships WILL. That's it. Just win baby and do it consistantly.
History is not on their side as far as leading their programs to long term success as Head Coaches. Bob Simmons, John Blake, Ron Cooper, Tyrone Willingham, Sylvester Croom, Ron Prince and long forgotten Willie Jeffries at Wichita.St from 79-83.(21-32-2) were all fired or resigned because of a lack of wins and the inability to produce and sustain a winning program. (Something a lot of "European American" coaches are guilty of too, so why all the racial profiling and obsession with lack of black head coaches)
Dennis Green at Stanford is about the only college head coach I can think of that wasn't canned or asked to leave. Am I missing any names?
Maybe the current group of black head coaches will have better LONG TERM success and prove that they can manage a program and not just be "Great Recruiters." Until that happens, the stigma will be there. The "Future" of black head coach hires is greatly dependent on what this group does.

The hiring of any individual for any job should be based on merit. However, ULL hired Jerry Baldwin as the first black coach at a major Louisiana University. After going 6-27 he was terminated, then he sued the University for racial discrimination although they were the first major La. Univ. to hire a black head coach.After years in the court system the case was recently resolved in favor of the University.This case could have a negative effect in the hiring of a black head coach by some atheletic directors.Anytime a coach goes 6-27 he should be terminated regardless of his color.
