Head coach is fine. It's paying assistants enough to live in Westwood. $700,000 doesn't go as far in LA.
Is there really any comparison between Westwood and Gainesville? Westwood is one of the nicer neighborhoods in LA. I'm sure Chip can afford it. Plus, he stays away from the rabid SEC fanbase that will want to fire him after each loss and/or 3 seasons without a National Championship.
California and LA have a ton great players. He won't have to go out of state nearly as much as when he was at Oregon. The road to the playoffs is probably easier at UCLA than Florida and he won't have the immense pressure that comes with the Florida job (or any other big time SEC job). Kelly is a Northeastern guy whose biggest college success came in the Pacific Northwest. I love the south because I'm from here. But that can be a HUGE culture shock for a guy who has little familiarity with the region.
I don't have any "sources", but the fact UCLA moved so quickly once it appeared Florida was going to grab Kelly is reminiscent of what Texas did when it looked like LSU was going to get Herman. Florida was probably a GREAT backup plan, but Kelly may have rathered the Pac 12 all along and just pushed UCLA to make a move quickly

Phil isn't going to want Chip at Rival non-Nike school.

Chip isn't an idiot.
Chip is an egomaniac though. He wanted to prove his system would work in the NFL. The only reason he goes to UCLA is that he doesn't want to recruit. He believes he can win in the SEC. Trust me.

He's an egomaniac because he wanted to coach in the NFL?

What are you asking to be linked? Do you need a link to see that he's been trying his offense at the NFL level for the past couple years?

I'm really curious about their relationship.

Chip is scared of expectations and went to coach in Philly?

Posted on 11/20/17 at 7:16 pm to TheCaterpillar
Brah....obviously the SEC over the NFC east. Amirite?

I don't recall him saying that at all but maybe I'm mis-remembering. I believe he said that's where he thinks Kelly is going and would be surprised if he took the UF job

Chip realizes his offense won't work in the SEC... LSU proved that point!

Yet it did fine in the pros..

sure did, that's why he is still the coach in Philly!?!?!?

I didn’t list the desire to bring the his system to the NFL as proof he’s an egomaniac. Chip is super type A and he’s in the mold of Saban. Told Helfrich he was wasting time getting drive through coffee in the morning. Extreme type A people tend to be egomaniacs. We should all want one for a coach.
I am not bitter. Chip gutted the star power at Philly and hired people like Helfrich that would take a 2nd seat to him.
Taggart hired an all star staff and will work with prima Donna star power. He’s more of motivatior push the right strings kind of coach. Get the the team to gel like Urban.
Taggart is busting the myth that Oregon can’t be a top 10 recruiter. He’s who I want. I appreciate everything Chip gave our university.

I think it’s close enough that they’ve conversed.

his offense is not the reason why he got canned. Hell, the man averaged 30ppg with Buttfumble at QB and went 10-6. He made a power grab to have personnel control, and was a horrible GM. Mismanaged the hell out of the roster.

He had the #1 offense in the NFL with Mark Sanchez and Nik Foles.
Just shut the frick up.
