It's been said that Brian Kelly left Cincy for Notre Dame because of the opportunity to play for a national championship.

The number of undefeated teams this year was an anomaly. Does anyone seriously think that if ND went 12-0 this year, that they would have jumped Texas or Bama and played for the national championship?

The SOS of the Big 12 and SEC is what got those teams into the NC game. Who does ND play every year besides USC?

If Cincy would have gone 12-0 in 2007, LSU wouldn't have played for the NC.

Right. Because ND always gets screwed. Seriously, look at history. The AP poll would have them #1 guaranteeing at least a share of a NC.

No, because they wouldn't need to jump them; they'd already be ranked ahead. Dude, if ND was 6-0 by midway in the season, they'd be in the top 5 at a minimum. By the time they'd be 10-0 or 11-0, they'd be ranked 1 or 2. I don't care who else might be undefeated. They'd be there.

It would be a ND vs Bama matchup this year. NO WAY IN HELL Notre Dame goes undefeated and doesn't play for the NC...EVER.

Actually history wasn't so kind to ND in the early 90s. ND gets a lot of attention without question. But ND's last great teams (1990 and 1993) were hosed.

I know that ND was hosed in 1993 because the media was hell bent on giving Bobby Bowden a title. FSU finished 11-1. ND finished 11-1. ND beat FSU head to head that year 31-24. So what did the media do? They gave FSU the national title.

Auburn didnt get in either. it just depends on how the season shapes up. Preseason rankings play a huge roll imo.

+1 ..ESPN had been talking them up as early as the 2nd week of the season.
As a matter of fact, they had already talked about the picture of USC and Notre Dame match up.....

so the answer is not Yes.

is HELL YEA !

Texas played 4 ranked teams at the time of their play...ND played 2.
