Per Jeff Duncan

quote:

Georgia Tech reached out to Fritz through informal back channels in mid-November. By late that month, Fritz had emerged as the school’s top target over the other three finalists for the job: Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, Coastal Carolina head coach Jeremy Chadwell and Brent Key, the school’s interim head coach.

Tech officials interviewed Fritz on Sunday, Nov. 27, and offered him the job that day. It was two days after the Green Wave's win at Cincinnati, one that gave Tulane home-field advantage in the American Athletic Conference championship game the following weekend.

quote:

There was, however, one major hang-up. Tech officials wanted Fritz to take the job immediately so they could announce his hiring and move forward with their offseason. Tech had been without a head coach for two months since school officials had fired Geoff Collins in late September. Officials there were understandably concerned about losing players to the transfer portal, which opened Dec. 5.

Dummies. If Fritz is your guy, and he’s a very good coach, accommodate the guy.

It’s GT. They don’t care about athletics

I question whether 6 days mattered too much to GT of all places, but those considerations are only more significant with the early signing and portal.

We have seen schools make decisions like this before and it's almost always better to get the right guy in there, regardless of timeline, than worry about the first transfer portal/recruiting class.

It's so short-sighted.

I’m glad Tulane stepped up with more money for Fritz and his staff. What they’ve done with this team is a damn miracle

Sounds like when Alleva didn't get his way with Herman and then just promoted Orgeron.

I think they made the right move anyway. Key is significantly younger and a Tech guy. Then they got Faulkner from us who has been very successful at 3 schools as OC.

Typical control freak corporate dipshit administrators screwing something up because they desperately need to control someone for absolutely no good reason. They get what they deserve

Don’t forget Fritz was leaked and the donors wanted Key.

The real story...so of course Duncan doesn't have it.

The real story is that Bama is still stuck with BOB

Unless Belichick does Saban a solid and takes him back to NFL

BOB's contract expires in early Jan., 2023, so he's not stuck with him for long unless he wants to be.
