At a minor school......yes......at a major right away like LSU hell no.
Guy is a great recruiter, but has no skins on the wall to prove he can be a great head coach at any collegiate level.

The thing for me is this, the guy is an amazing recruiter. He also has the personality, skills, experience that make him perfect for the "manager" type of role. I think he could hire a couple of excellent coordinators and then he'd sit back and let them do their jobs.
He wouldn't have to do anything other than keep bringing in talent and keeping the program under control.

All Frank has proven is that he can recruit. He may be able to do it all, but LSU is a not the kind of job where you can learn on the go. Too much risk, period.

Porter wasn't even a very good RB coach, that was just an awful hire.
Frank is a much better coach and probably has a bright future, but he's no where near ready to take over a top 10 program.

For those people who know anything about the inner workings of the program, they know that Frank Wilson is basically the COO to Les' CEO. He works his behind off and does a helluva job. He'd be a great coach here if given the opportunity, but he won't be given the opportunity.

This is what I'm saying. Hell he has the experience like being an AD. All he'd have to do is continue to recruit at a high level, manage the team, and hire coordinators that can do their jobs well.

He's never even been a coordinator at any level. Being the HC of a major school like LSU is no place to learn on the job or assign the HC work out. He has an ego like anyone in college coaching & he would rightly so want to run things his way.

Frank wouldn't even get a shot if he were the most qualified, and there's no need to dive into those waters

Put me in this group of thought. I don't think you have to be a coordinator to then be a successful HC, in fact in some instances it might make you a worse HC.
John Harbaugh was a ST coach before being hired as the HC of the Ravens. It's all about the personality, can the guy manage the team? Can the guy recruit effectively? Can the guy bring in coordinators and let them do their jobs without meddling?
Frank has had experience as an AD IIRC (what was it N.O. public schools or something?) I honestly think he could do this with the right coordinators.
