Again, giving him a raise after one year is exactly why LSU will continue to be an 8-10 team win with little shot at the SEC title. Chavis' defenses more based on the offense. They get worse when the offense is better in his history. That's pretty bad to think when it should be the opposite.
We got 4, FOUR, ppg better this year. The pick 6's counted against the defense last year were ridiculous.

Big Don or Robinson going to have to take it for the team. Sorry but TE can be handled...and we definitely have enough recruiters. Robinson has decent ST but he ain't no recruiter either. WE NEED COACHES WHO CAN COACH.

Why did georgia want him? I am not asking this as a rhetorical question to make him out to be a genius- honestly if the Tennessee guys made fun of 3rd and Chavis and so did we - can none of the coaches see it ?

Les should coach defense. Take some of his $3.75 mill and pay Gregg Williams or someone else to teach him all they know. Then he can hire a puppet DC and Miles will have something to do.
For $3.75 million, he's gotta do something, right? It's not offense (107th in nation), offensive line (worst in years) or QB development. It's not game management (Ole Miss, timeout usage in general). It's not running a clean program (McCarthy). WTF is it? Recruiting? Yet the OL and DL don't have the talent? $3.75 million to recruit misused skill players?

Look at his stats. His best defenses come when the offense is a cluster frick and has been that way for almost 8 years. His defenses are mediocre or suck when the teams offense are actually good.

I find it amazing that we have a dedicated TE coach but no QB coach.

You're trying to draw a statistical correlation between two things that are likely coincidental and calling it a fact. A bad offense, and we're obviously talking really bad here, should make it more difficult on the defense.

Chavis made LSU's D look much better in one year. Richt bought himself 1 year by firing Martinez(He technically resigned). Richt needs a guy who can make his D look respectable in one year.

Actually that is a logical fallacy , false cause as well as denying the antecedent.
When the offenses were improving in Tennessee, did he have the same kind of Defensive players each year?
Did Tennessee decide to recruit more O skill players than D skill?
Did the offense of opposing teams improve in those years ?
BTW - His defenses could well suck as years go by but your correlation is not logical.

The guy had one "GREAT" defensive game this year against a quality opponent, and he deserves a raise?
I said I was fine with him staying if they didn't give him $200k more per year. Instead they gave him just that.
He's a stabilizer and knows the SEC. UGA isn't expecting a lights out defense, they aren't used to that. LSU is. Any improvement for them is good, and Richt struck out early on a LOT of his top choices, so he went (like Miles) after a safe pick in Chavis.

Actually I don't think you will find anyone in this economy (leave alone amongst LSU fans ) who would agree to any raise
leave alone for Chavis for doing a good job but not high double digit percentage raise-worthy Never mind all the arguments -

LSU opponents - ~70 offensive plays per game (846 plays in 12 games)
It's even a bigger issue in BCS games:
UF - 64 to 47 (-17)
MSU - 86 to 58 (-28)
Bama - 72 to 56 (-16)
UW - 83 to 48 (-35)
That's just 4 of our 9 BCS games alone accounting for a -96 difference between our offense and opponent's offensive plays.
