Do you realize we had the 107 ranked offense and still won 9 games, should have been 10 and played with the #1 team in the country at their house? Our d line is not what it used to be. If we get studs there, our d will be much better. Our offense should go nowhere but up, so that will help the d so they won't have to constantly be on the field.

I guess I am just a ranter.

Do you realize Chavis' defense was partly responsible for the fact our offense had on average like 20 less plays than our opponents?

I love how people can't realize that its also on the shitty 3rd down defense for giving UF like 19 minutes of TOP in the first half alone.

This is a good post, but duck because the 1/2 glass full suicide watch guys are going to find every way to discredit the facts.

It works hand in hand. If the o can run the ball, the d is on the field less. If the d causes 3 and outs, then the o has more opportunities. However, the d was clearly better than the o, so I can't really blame them. You can have the #1 defense, but you have to be able to run the ball. Florida had the best d stat wise and they could not run the ball and lost to bama. The offense is the problem.

Do you think LSU would be off the field more if they had a better d-line? I mean seriously, this is probably one of the worst d-lines LSU has had in a long time.

No.

So we have the number 12 scoring defense and the # 107 total offense.

Which do you think is better and which one is to blame?

Not Miles' fault. Just wanted to get that out the way.

so you just have to be better than LSU's shitty offense and that makes you deserving of a $150K raise? NICE

If Crowton beats Chavis next year I guess we should give him a mill.

I am not talking about a raise or how good Chavis is. All I am saying is that everyone saying Chavis sucks needs their heads examined. He did way better than Mallveto and better than Crowton. The d wasn't the problem this year. The o is. If we were in the mid 50's in offense, we win two more games for sure. Would you complain if we were 11-1? Only game we were never in was UF.

Then why are you calling out the people bitching? They are bitching for the exact reasons of how good Chavis is and giving him a raise to stay.

I don't like how he used Georgia to get more money out of us.

I'll also be extremely pissed if Crowton stays and they use the excuse that they couldn't afford his buyout...

I don't give a shite who gets a raise as long as Crowton is shown the door and they get a good OC. Maybe kick Big Don's arse off the roster too and get a QB coach.

Just throwing this out there. Only 5 teams gave up my TDs than we did. Not too shabby in comparison to last year. If we can get more depth at D-line and get more pressure on the QB.......I think we'll be okay.

I am not defending the raise here but maybe that was the only way they could keep Chavis?

Why do we have to keep him if he were only good in comparison to our crappy defense last year and horrible offense this year?

Maybe because that is the only way we get a sense of continuity with the D players (would be the 4th change in as many years) also it makes sense to keep one variable constant while tinkering with the offense ( by bringing in new coaches).

But why not just get new folks and bite the bullet now?

Chances are high that the next season might be the same or worse than this year / Miles might not be the kind of person who works that way.

Well screw Miles and his thinking - Fire Miles ? He is not going anywhere this year and if this experiment works then it would be a good thing because that means he knows what he is doing.

If he doesn't , then we have more discussion in this board for the next year :)

Hes going to have to take one for the team, unless he can coach QBs, which I don't want to find out.

I love people bitching about how bad our DLine is. If that is the case, why has it been Chavis' teams trends the past five years to continually have less # of plays than their opponents. It's gotten worse at LSU playing even weaker teams than he played at Tennessee in those years.

Again, despite the poor play of our DL, no changes or attempted changes were even made to address this. A sack master got ONE sack all season. If he keeps getting us killed on the run, bench him and put someone in their that will. No stunts were even used nor and thing other than 4 guys running a bull rush.

Blitzing was completely pathetic and never disguised, especially on 3rd and 4th downs. That is what you get with Chavis, and that's not worth $650k a year.
