Just pure speculation by my part, but I see this as his last game as coach of the Golden Eagles, he will get a chance at a AQ school as I think the merry go-round gets running after/during bowl season. I am thinking his best chances are Michigan State (Dantonio could leave due to health), Maryland, and Stanford if Harbaugh leaves for anything.

Why? He hasn't even won a division title at Southern Miss.

He isn't doing any better than Bower.

2 reasons that he would move where Bower wouldnt.

1. Bower was a USM guy and he his family was at that part in life moving them made no sense. Fedora is young enough and family isnt tied to Southern

2. His offensive system will put people in stands. While he hasnt won a division he has his team competitive with limited resources.

+1 Fedora is a good football coach no doubt, but he hasn't made the Southern Miss football program any better than what it was under Jeff Bower. USM fires a guy who won 8+ games 6 times, took them to 10 bowl games in his last 11 years & won or played for the conference championship 4 times for a coach who's best season is an 8-4 in the 3 years he has been at USM. Not a wise move by the USM admin if you ask me.

I think he has in terms of excitement around Hattiesburrg. While I give you the point about wins/losses. Bower had run his time out there and they wanted to move, much like Maryland thing. I just think if given the right conditions Fedora would be able to be competitive at an AQ school, he will get his chance soon. I dont think he will ever win a NC but I think the schools that are looking are more worried about Conference Championships, graduating, and beating their rivals more than NC's.

ETA:

He has been at big time schools, worked his way up the ladder, so he has paid his dues and knows how to build a contender with big time resources.

In my opinion, if you're going to hire a coach from non-AQ, he needs to compete for titles at that level, if you're expecting the same at a BCS school.

I don't disagree with you, you make great points about Fedora I was just talking about in terms of where they were and where they are right now. I actually thought they would break through this year and do big things in CUSA but it just didn't happen for them but I agree with you that the ceiling is only so high at a school like Southern Miss.

Didn't Les want to bring Fedora and boot Jimbo originally?

Probably.

He was the favorite to be Florida's OC ahead of Dan Mullen but mucked up his interview.

+1. We hired Curley Hallman from USM. His sucess there was only because Bret Favre was his QB.

Having 'The Hat' and Fedora on the same coaching staff may have been too confusing, but would've made for some potentially good headlines.

I can promise you he is not going anywhere right now. Everybody loves him around Hattiesburg. He will be forced to get rid of his DC. Just think if he had a good DC, the Golden Eagles will be playing in a BCS game this year. Its hard to put up that 40 plus games and still lose. IMO

I thought he and Kap were going to choke the OL and the officials last night. But it's not about people liking him in Hattiesburg. It's about some school coming to make an offer.

His name is out there to get any other job that comes up. He came out of the Austin College football program....pass at all costs. Horrible, IMHO. BUT...he looks the part. Ladies love to look at him!

I don't know what the circumstances were behind it, but I'm guessing that a lot of teams don't want a guy whose players are being shot in nightclubs.

His pay is not up to a lot of places. At his age he needs to move on up, if possible. That youth and good looks will fade.
