In Pelini's final season as defensive coordinator at LSU, the Tigers won it all, stifling a potent Ohio State offense led by Heisman-winner Troy Smith.

Troy Smith wasn't the starting QB that year

People are acting pretty emotional and dumb regarding this man's football accumen

Reminds me a lot of when Ed O was hired. Past performance does not equal future success. Especially when you're a former head coach going back to your niche as a defensive coordinator

We get that he couldn't run a CFB program. That's not what he's being asked to do at LSU

Pimping an article that doesn't even have basic facts correct is classic rantard.

are people really upset at the idea of Pelini being DC?

sadly yes

it has been pathetic.

my guess is a combo of

1) youngsters who never watched him coach and think 52 is an old man. guess they woulda hated dick lebeau. coached until almost 80 effectively as one of the best DC's ever in the NFL.

2) emotional SJW types who want a stoic, lethargic, non aggressive, NICE GUY...if it all goes to shite they want to be able to say " HE WAS A GOOD MAN"

3) football ignorance due to age and willful laziness (which we have boatloads of here sadly)

4) all 3 of the above

chicken wants hits and (although i understand it makes him money without making this a pay site) it allows anybody or any age football stupid or not to post here

this whole board needs a litmus test before allowing anyone to post.

I have seen where many posters here originally signed up in THEIR TEENS! after comfirming their ages and looking at sign up date. he is probably a teenager.

this really needs to go to a pay board. it would weed out most the morons and kids.

Pelini is a great DC who had some temper issues as HC. He was popular as DC with players and coaches while at LSU.

He actually didnt do bad as a HC. much better than the coaches that came after him at Nebraska as a matter of fact.

I’ll never understand this logic! It’s completely narrow minded. A minor mistake doesn’t make his entire article trash.

Some of the best physicians make mis-prints in their medical records and refer to the wrong patient, does that make them unqualified to be a physician?

But actually he can run a CFB program.

He has a 100-55 record and a winning bowl record.

This article is conveniently timed right before his defenses at Nebraska went to shite.

2011-2014 his defenses were 42, 58, 51, and 60th in points allowed. Which resulted in him getting fired.

Stats from a decade ago don’t mean shite with how much the game has changed since then.

His later defenses at Nebraska I don’t think were great. Not sure if that’s all on him—Nebraska hasn’t had great defenses often the past 20 years.

I’m curious how he does defending spread offenses.

This probably had a bit to do with Nebraska leaving the BigXII, they "lost" access to their traditional recruiting grounds in BigXII country (Texas in particular).

Moved to the B1G in 2011.

Quickly done numbers: from 2005-2010 averaged over 5 players from Texas every year.

From 2011 to 2020, averaging just over 2 players from Texas every year.

2011 had 6 Texas players to Nebraska, but the numbers really aren't affected by including that year on either side of the divide.

Perhaps none of that matters either way, but the defense started to decline after the conference switch.
