Fans need to get over the "I'm not leaving" statements that all coaches give...

To ridicule anyone for that is sheer stupidity.
You cannot do anything but be 100% in what your job is TODAY. Period. I don't care if you're a HC at any football job or a CPA at an accounting firm.
And given the same options in your jobs, most people would job hop from a 50K to a 125K to a 250K a year job without giving it a whole lot of thought.
Well that's what happens with these coaches.
So, get over it. Coaches do exactly what you or I would do. They are just dealing in much larger salaries and way more people scrutinizing their careers than we are.

Very true. I don't get why people give Saban such a hard time for the comments in Miami. When the season is going, what the hell do people think they're going to say. "Well, I'm thinking about going to ______, but I'm not sure yet."

The only thing I don't understand is why they make the comments at all. Nobody believes them anymore, it doesn't really help, so why not use the "I'm focused on winning championships at Alabama, you guys can focus on message board talk" coach speak and leave yourself some room?

Not to mention, it's downright dangerous to say anything else before the contracts are signed and everything is done. Imagine how ridiculous people would get if he even hinted he wasn't committed to Alabama, and if the deal fell through, he'd be screwed.
I guarantee that the University of Alabama knows EXACTLY what's going down, and as long as they're given notice to prepare to move forward, I couldn't care any less about what is said between now and when all is said and done. I just hope LSU fans get over the pain behind their eyes from seeing him break up with Bama (if it happens). It'll make football season a little more tolerable.

The difference here is that a CPA isn't going on record saying they aren't interested in leaving KPMG for E&Y then taking the E&Y gig.
If you don't want to tell the truth then don't say anything. No need to lie.

I agree. A coach usually wouldn't and shouldn't say he's leaving until the time's right. The people I know that give Saban a hard time do so not because he said "I'm not gonna be the Alabama coach" but because of the hissy he threw about them even asking him that question when he "already told ya'll" he wasn't going to coach at Alabama. It was like, how dare you doubt my word. Lol

same mentality with recruits... I'm committed to school X but will also visit y & z... if you aren't on board do not say you are...

I guarantee that if you shove a camera crew in their face and rabid KPMG clients who are sharpening their axes to prepare for the outcome, that CPA would be wearing company polos every day.

Exactly. There are probably 1,000 things that could potentially torpedo a contract at that level.
"I'm all in, until I'm out" is the only possible way to proceed.. for ANY of us.

Every coach lies during a coaching change.....they have no other choice. Even if there is a agreement in principal, sometimes the details get in the way and the coach stays put. This just happens to be one of the most visible coaching changes in recent memory.

I believe people take coaches leaving way too personally. It's business. Fans often forget that coaches (for the most part) have no tie with the university they coach at. While fans love the school/team, coaches don't. It's all about the money.

I think Saban remembers the craziness that happened in Tenn with Kiffen. And that was Lane Kiffen leaving after just one year.
Pandemonium would probably be an understatement.
