But he has no problem with Aranda, a man who A) has the "Associate HC" title, B) is now making nearly as much as him, and C) could make O's head explode talking defensive schemes.

To me, Aranda is more of a threat of de-throning Orgeron than any incoming OC.

Did Orgeron really WANT to keep Aranda? Or was it a fight he wasn't going to win?

I guess I'm trying to understand the narrative of Orgeron wanting to keep people around that don't threaten his position.

lol come on. Of course he wanted to keep him. Of all the things you can say about O, this isn't one of them.

I agree, but again, if this narrative of the OC is true (I think SFP touched on it last night), then Aranda has to be equally a threat.

Aranda is his best chance of keeping his job. If he'd lost Aranda, he would be gone in a year

Do you have a shrink? You obviously don’t understand the value of organizational cohension, and team work. Canada was a self-centered and disruptive cancer to the HC and other staff. I can tell you that Aranda approved 100% of letting Canada go. Do you not trust Aranda’s judgement either?

It says something when the fan base is more loyal to a coordinator than the HC

The fact Aranda isn't a threat, means Canada wasn't a "threat." O has his idea of what he wants. Canada wasn't doing that. He feels whoever he hires will be on board with what he wants. He doesn't want another Canada experience.

FWIW, I don't think O needs to be concerned with the offense since it's not his area of expertise. But that's what he's trying to do.

It's all about demeanor. Aranda is quiet, reserved, and reverent. Even though he's a rising star, Orgeron is comfortable with him because he knows Aranda will be a loyal worker.

Not to mention that Orgeron's survival as the head coach is entirely dependent on Aranda remaining at LSU.

Keeping Aranda was vital, for sure, but running off your "hot shot" OC after 1 year and bringing in the geriatric crowd can't be a good look either.

I'm not questioning Aranda at all. I just don't get why he would go this route on offense.

So O has completely failed in his only major hire up to this point?

I don't think he's intimidated by a good OC, he wants to have a say in what the offense does and so he needs one who will listen and implement his input.

O's background, as we all know, isn't with offense and so I don't think he realizes how clueless he is when it comes to coaching that side of the ball.

O knows Aranda could coach circles around him, and so he lets him do his thing. Not to mention Aranda was O's boss from January to October in 2016.

Basically, given his personality, I don't think O can stomach the thought of being the HC and not having much say in what BOTH the offense and defense are doing. If I'm Alleva I'd tell him "tough shite, this is why you got the job" but it doesn't look like that's happening.

I remember Canada saying that Orgeron still wanted a 50/50 split on run/pass, which is fine. I think you have a vision on that, you communicate it and trust your OC to make it happen. Or maybe your OC says "I don't think that's going to work too well with the players we have, maybe we go this route", and you have a HC that is willing to listen to that and maybe compromise.

I think more than anything I want to know the factual reasons why Canada/Orgeron didn't work out. Too much speculation here.

Why do apes fling feces? No one really knows. However it is funny whenever you are a spectator, safe of being hit by the said feces. Its not fun for the poor souls inside the enclosure with the apes. Right now, we are all in that enclosure

Dude, he had already pitched dumping Canada to the bigs, and could nt find a replacement. Had he lost Aranda too, his arse was grass. And he knew it

Aranda was purely a survival move

If he blows this OC hire again, he probably(and hopefully) will be gone in a year along with Alleva.

I imagine when O starts to really feel the heat he'll turn on Aranda as well.

Alleva has to be on the hotseat, right? The Canada thing looks bad for everyone involved.
