Dan can't close the deal with these recruits and I think it has to do with him behind the scenes with recruits and their families. Sure, he can sell the program to fans but with HS kids and their parents it's a completely different game.

I am not sure I understand the fascination with Mullen.
Any coach that can take state to back to back bowls is good?? Not sure.
No butthurt talkin here. I don't see what the fascination w Mullen is either. Yes he has state headed in a better direction but my god they were gettin over the Croomage. My point is this, 1-13 vs ranked opponents with his best win coming over 09 OM. Not a good recruiter either. Got a ton of breaks a year ago and this year went from preseason top 20 to 6-6 with the only sec wins coming against by far the 2 worst teams. "Smoke and mirrors guys, welcome to the movie factory."

Right, we had top 20-30 ranked classes at some points the last two years but both fell off towards the end in December/January.

The freshmen class he recruited is sick, especially w/ Sun Belt standards.
A lot were Mississippi kids he discovered while coaching at State.

Like Joe Price who's offer Mullen pulled?

The fact that he has led State to back to Back Bowlgames, and three straight Egg Bowl wins. State fans see that as success when looking at 3-8 and 4-7 seasons with Croom for 5 years.
Croom lost to the likes of Troy, Middle Tenn State, UAB, Tulane, and MAINE for gosh sakes
DAN HAS BEEN A HUUUUUUUGGGGGGGEEEE upgrade
Many OM fans seem to fail to acknowledge how bad our program was with Croom. The 45-0 2007 egg bowl helped change things up.

So State fans weren't claiming Mullen to be the next best thing like they are thinking Hud is now?
Correct me if I'm wrong. I've been wrong once before.
I told you Dan was abrasive. I have no idea about a coach from ULL save for Dooley.

Dooly was from La-Tech, Hudspeth is the head coach at Louisiana-Lafayette different schools.
Hud is taking ULL to a BOWL GAME their first in 30 years.

Right. This is why we cooled down on Mullen slowly this year. When he came in, state fans went ape shite crazy over him, myself included. The reason was the quality of play. It was very evident that we were being coached so much better, win or lose. We were so used to Croom. I love Mullen and am glad he came to Starkville. He will keep improving the program if he stays, but I think most of us feel like Hud would do it faster.
But Mullen has this program heading in the right direction and he did it at Mississippi State. You have to respect that. It was a tough thing to do and not many people could have done it. Wait till he gets to a top tier program. I think people will see why state fans love him so much. He'll get it done wherever he goes. Put Mullen at Georgia and see what happens.

My opinion of Merlins changed after the LSU game. Not that I wanted him fired, but I wouldn't be scared if he left.

Lol I will gladly acknowledge that. I just did actually. That's my point, yes Mullen has things improving but that's like saying "well I took a fat crosseyed bitch home 2 nights ago but last night I found one who was just fat."
he's improved things but thats more of an indictment on how awful things were. Bottom line, he's come in, run his mouth about OM at every opportunity (which makes said fanbase happier than Sandusky at the YMCA), and has posted a losing SEC record.

State fans are content and happy with 6 to 8 wins and bowl games. We know we can't compete for national championships with the likes of LSU, Bama, Florida, etc...
We just want a long term HC and we believe that HUD is that.

This is true right now. You can't just all of a sudden become a great program. We have to just be consistent winners for a little while, then later you might start getting opportunities. See Arkansas. They will get a shot at some point if they keep doing what they are doing. If State expands the stadium and keeps goin to bowls, it's possible.(I am perfectly aware the percentage is very very low.)

I think Hud will be a huge upgrade in recruiting from Dan. I'm just talking about attitude, composure and the ability to sell a program to recruits and their Momma's.
I think even coonass will tell you it's really the assistants who do the recruiting. Right Coonass?
