Reed will serve in an advisory role, per UM, that will include “strategic planning’’ and “quality control’’ and “player evaluation’’ and “player development.’’ The completion of his hire is pending “a standard university background check,’’ UM said in a written release.

At least not actually in the state of LA. Like Faulk, he can talk to kids all he wants when they visit, but he can't sit in a living room in New Orleans and woo a kid and his family

This job seems like it’s mostly for PR purposes, gives Diaz something. I’d bet Ed does very little day to day

No but his presence around big time recruiting periods would be beneficial.

I know kids are getting further away from his playing days but you'd think they'd know who he is.

If Miami can get a waiver for Ed to get out and recruit and replace one of the on field coaches then Miami will do it. LSU did it with Austin Thomas when Pete was the D-Line coach.

Miami is at full staff, hiring Ed was more of a perception for Miami than anything else. Miami actually turned down a ex player who was in the front office for Browns and was more for chief of staff

At least Diaz seems to be trying everything to rebuild Miami.

Ed absolutely can recruit off campus when they are down a coach for whatever reason. We are currently doing the same this. Faulk and Christian Lacouture are both recruiting.

Ed Reed is a massive pot head. Amongst other things. He's also into many other "interests". I have first hand knowledge of this from second hand sources. Book it

Ed has NFL coaching experience but with this move I wonder what he's looking at as far as his future. Diaz likely didn't want Highsmith because Highsmith likely would have been critical of him. This looks like a move to appease former Miami players.

Arguably marijuana has no negative stigma nowadays.
