This hire is about as good as they could have hoped for IMO.

I think I would've held out if I were him. There had to be another opportunity down the road.

Duke has been looking for a new coach since Nov. 26, when the school fired Ted Roof after a 1-11 record in 2007 and a 6-45 mark in five seasons

Has any coach in any sport had a winning % this low after 5 seasons of coaching. 6 and 45 is the worst I have ever seen.

I actually like Cutcliff as a coach, I thought Ole Miss firing him was really stupid. I agree he probably could have gotten a better offer than Duke, he must have been anxious to get back in the saddle.

I'm pretty sure he could have held out for a better job.

from an e-mail i received earlier today

quote:

Duke - Cutcliffe top guy but if he takes the job, he's going the wrong way and not as smart as we all thought. He would at least triple his salary but would win as many games at Duke in 3 yrs what the Vols will win in 1 yr. Atlanta Falcons asst Hue jackson has passed karl Dorrell as the #2 candidate. jackson was strongly recommended by Spurrier, Jackson coached on his staff w/ the Redskins. Plus, a big thing w/ the Duke admin is that he can put a staff together of coaches w/ east coast ties where Dorrell was shaky w/ that.

Ronald Beard was the coach at Prairie View and he was fired after going 0-44.

One of those seasons, (1991), these were some of his losses:

92-0
55-0
61-0
77-7
51-6
61-0
41-0
59-6

These are some of the other losses he had in the remaning 3 years:

63-3
63-0
44-6
56-7
46-0
45-8
46-6
49-0
42-6
58-12
51-0
66-0
69-14
54-13
70-20
52-7
48-6

He may be the worst coach in college football history

1. Cutcliffe was three points from going undefeated in the SEC in 2003.
2. Wake Forest won the ACC last year.

Therefore, this is a great move for Cut; Duke will have a fighter's chance in the ACC in a couple years.

And Cutcliff has had health issues, so mabe he was looking for a HC job with not too much pressure to win attached. What does this do to Tenn is more interesting to SEC fans. Tenn will have both a new QB and OC coming in next year.

At Duke, he'll have the difficult task of building the Blue Devils into winners after the team won just 22 games during the past 13 seasons

I hadn't realized Duke football was THAT bad.
That is less than 2 wins a season for 13 fricking years.

Ten wins at Ole Miss? This guy is a great coach. The homecoming queen from the last year they won 10 games is probably pushing a walker around somewhere.

Billy Brewer may have won 10 games back in the late 80's/early 90's, but they were paying their players back then.
