EL OH EL

quote:

Dolphins hired ex-Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum as executive vice president of football operations. Tannenbaum's title is a fancy way of saying he'll be owner Stephen Ross' new football czar, a la Mike Holmgren in Cleveland. He spent the past year as a "consultant" to Ross. It's an ominous development for GM Dennis Hickey and coach Joe Philbin, though both should be safe for 2015. Czars typically like to bring in their own underlings, however. General manager of the Jets from 2006-12, Tannenbaum didn't stand out as a man deserving of a second chance to oversee someone's entire football operation, but the Dolphins rarely make sound decisions. Tannenbaum was an abject disaster his final years in the Big Apple, though did have the good sense to hire Rex Ryan, and oversaw a roster that made back-to-back AFC Championship Games. Either way, Ross is grasping at straws with his latest dart-board throw.

Getting a high level NCAA or NFL job is like winning the damn lottery. You'll never have to worry about finding another job again. Good old boys club doesn't even begin to describe it

I was talking about that the other day with someone. Tough to get in, but once you are you'll always be able to find work

Can you imagine this in the real world?

"Hey I see here on your resume that you got fired at all of your previous positions and looking at these numbers that you performed, you were clearly terrible at your job.....wait you have lunch with one of our managers once a week? Goddamn it your hired. And keep a low profile for 2 years and one of our competitors will probably offer you a huge raise and promotion"

Steve Ross had to get his wealth by windfall. There is no freaking way that man made money through business decisions like this.

Sell the team you goofball and go live in Ann Arbor with your beloved Wolverines.

Dolphins GM Dennis Hickey will "continue to lead the personnel and scouting departments," and retain final say over the 53-man roster following the hiring of Mike Tannenbaum as executive V.P. of football operations. At least, that's what the Dolphins are claiming. Hickey will report directly to Tannenbaum, and should immediately be considered on the hot seat. It's a bizarre situation, as Hickey did a much better job in 2014 than Tannenbaum did for the majority of his Jets tenure. It's the kind of mess Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has specialized in making. For whatever reason, coach Joe Philbin will continue to report directly to Ross, and not Hickey or Tannenbaum. Miami's power structure is a corn maze in the middle of a cave system.

This is one of the dumbest hires of the past few years. Unbelievable. Can't wait for the Jets to hire Jeff Ireland.
