I noticed Cooper is on Saban’s staff. Any way we can build a better group of assistants?

Why wouldn’t he be able to? The more minds in the program the better. It allows people to focus on what they are good at and not carry too much of the burden.

Probably.

But for coaches and shadow staff we need to prepare ourselves for a possible 2 year process until settled.

I fully expected them to jump out the gate with coordinators and then work their way through the position coaches with the normal turnstile for GAs and analysts because that is what is usually best for recruiting.

The process, so far, is the exact opposite. They started with S&C coach and are now in the position coaches without OC/DC at least publicly named (maybe known, maybe not). And they are starting with coaches who were employed pre-2019 also.

So logic dictates there will be some year 2 changes also due to "alignment" of position coaches vs. coordinators. Now there's still time this year to get all that settled so it isn't given. But that's what I'm anticipating. And it will independent of our record, good or bad, next year.

In doing that the shadow staff will likely be well stocked to move people between coach and S-staff (e.g. Napier at Bama), which is somewhat popular now. At least this year the shadow staff will be the reserve army and used as conditions dictate.

On this (yes, quoting myself):

Why does the reverse order of the usual way of doing things in regards to what's best for recruiting have a chance to work? What's different?

The portal, AND in a year with the 7 extra. I imagine if the portal didn't exist the coordinators would have been done first. The 7 extra is just lagniappe. I.e., with the portal and in particular this year you have more wiggle room between your coach selections and recruits because there's a whole other lake to fish in and game and fish has upped the limits this year.

Based on what we saw a bunch... but 1/2 of them are just over 1 yr. old and the other half are just a couple of months old.
