He has no real HC experience or any as a coordinator but has been one the best recruiters in the nation for years at wvu, florida and nc state. No official word on it yet.

I have always wondered if a team would take him because of his recruiting skill. Porter clearly got the Memphis job because of recruiting, as did Locksley at New Mexico.
Did Marshall fire their coach or did he take another job?

to call him a joke is a great understatement..
presser re new coach (presumably holliday) expected today - still a rumor as of now.

Snyder made Les Miles look like a fricking Rhodes Scholar.
This was the best Marshall could have done. I think the funny part is so many WVU fans are pissed about it. At least that's what I gather form the message board. If one of our coaches left to go to ULL I'd laugh but wish him the best. Marshall is a joke but too many WVU fans look at them seriously.
Also some Marshall people I've talked to aren't happy about the choice. I had a come to Jesus talk with one where I tried to explain to him that Tommy Bowdon doesn't want to coach there. Herd fans are just ignorant of their position in college football.

I wouldn't be too thrilled either. Just look at some of the coaches who were recently hired in CUSA:
Sumlin - co-OC at OU
Mike Price - Awesome job at Wazzu. Hired by Bama but fricked a stripper. Not that big of a deal. UTEP (a school with no history of success at all) scooped him up. Opportunistic hire.
George O'Leary - Does a great job at GT. Hired by ND but lied on his resume. After that blew over, UCF scooped him up. Opportunistic hire.
Larry Fedora - successful OC at UF and OSU
Todd Graham - turned freaking Rice around and took them to a bowl game in only one season before going to Tulsa.
June Jones - took Hawaii to BCS bowl and SMU ponied up.
Marshall could have hired someone with decent coaching experience, whether it was a coordinator from a big program or a somewhat successful HC in between jobs. Holliday was just a recruiting coordinator. Too many programs have become too focused on just recruiting and not actual coaching.

Lord, it is the organization. They have no clue what is ahead. Some coaches step up and get it done, but most flounder until they learn. Look at our LSU guys at Stephen F Austin. It is not an easy job. How many folks can walk in and do a TV show....spout off names, players, positions, etc? Serious challenge for many. Gotta speak at all the benefits, alum meetings and on and on. Then, run a staff and organize the practices while you school the new guys on duties. I cringe to think what Porter is going to do with all the High School friends/coaches. Dubose may be able to help or Daye, if he gets them hired.

I have been to everyone of these schools as a representative of Marshall University. Let me tell you this, everyone of these schools has Marshall beat on talent base, fanbase, money, facilities and enrollment. Marshall is at a crossroads. The program joined C-USA expecting to dominate. Instead they're worse then they were when they left the MAC.
They are on the verge of collapsing as a DI program. They have 0 money. They're enrollment is falling. They're town is dying. This is a dead end job. Holliday is the best they could have done.
Marshall does not have what it takes to compete in C-USA. UAB and USM are as poor, but hey have much better talent pools to draw from.

I didn't realize things were so dire at Marshall. When I think Marshall, I think Moss, Leftwich, Pennington and McConaughey. It would be a shame if that program falls out of FBS or something.

i wouldn't go that far. Most of us don't want to play them and don't even consider them rivals. More like a nuisance we have to play to appease politicians
