I love this topic because other than the ATL job, which is a totally different animal, he's never left for a lesser job...

Everyone expects him to leave...but I've yet to see where he would end up!

I think you are terribly misinformed on the subject of Petrino, Arkansas's potential in the SEC, etc. You say you don't care, yet you continue to post. I care because I am an Arkansas fan.

Obviously, there is no way for either of us to win this pissing contest.

SO...

I'm not going anywhere and you aren't either .
Feel free to give me all the hell you want if , 1)Petrino leaves before he has been our coach for at least 3 years, or 2) we fail to ascend to top 6 status during his tenure as our coach.I'll return the favor.

OK?

Once again, I was a fan under him during his rather brief tenure in Atlanta. I know what is needed to know about him.

You've already just about peaked. Sorry, but you're becoming of vast delusions if you ever think you'll be consistently among the Big 6 in the SEC. There is a reason it is called the Big 6, and not the Big 7 or Big 6+1. Like I said, the evidence is clearly there - you cannot recruit consistently on with the top dogs in the SEC therefore will never be there conisstently with the top dogs in the SEC.

I said I don't care where Bobby Petrino goes or stays. I'm just here to give some (better) insight than what I've already read.

It's not a pissing contest unless you make it out to be that way. It's called a discussion.

1)Petrino leaves before he has been our coach for at least 3 years

Once again I don't care. I was just bringing facts to the table and saying it's extremely delusional to believe there's "No way" he's going anywhere anytime soon when that's all he's ever done his entire coaching career. I'm not saying he will go somewhere else, just saying believing he definitely won't is clearly ignoring his past and the facts.

I never said you won't be in the Top 6 of the SEC. I said you'll never be a consistent Top 6 team in the SEC. You'll continue to have years like 1992, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2005 and this year while in the SEC. Why? Because the talent just won't consistently be there and on top of that you're never going to be great depth in terms of talent.

Sure, you'll have years like 2006 when you had a decent bit of good starting talent out there on both sides of the ball and have a good season where maybe even one day you can win the conference. But that will be a more rare occurance than .500 and losing seasons (and has been). The problem for you isn't as much as yourself as it is the competition you must face now. You're not in the SWC anymore. Keep in mind since joining the SEC you're 61-74-2 against SEC teams. Not exactly great, in fact, that's quite a bit below .500.

All I've heard coming from Arkansas is that Petrino and his staff think that they can re-awaken our once-proud program. By all accounts his family is very content, his kids are happy in school, and he is very confident that he can turn us back into a national power.

But you nay-sayers keep on yapping.

No offense, but your once proud proram was in SWC. Like Clemson in ACC prior to FSU and Miami. Penn State before joining Big X.In 60s and 70s.LSU used to play 3 SWC schools as tune ups for SEC.SEC didn't suddenly become strong after Hogs joined conference. Petrino may do well but don't think he will meet expectations of those at Hogville.

LOVE THIS SITE

No offense taken, btw. We certainly have not earned our stripes in the SEC. I don't blame anyone for placing us as a tier two FB program. It is up to us to change that perception and bias.

I think we will, bit I could be wrong.

HOWEVER, some around her think that these "top-tier" or "top 6" designations are permanent. To believe that is just laughable. Do certain schools have someadvantages? Sure. But that doesn't give those programs permanent power.

There are more than a few mis-perceptions in the SEC about what Arkansas was in the past, or could be in the future. We've unfortunately proven the nay-sayers plenty of ammo since we joined the SEC.

It'll be fun to see how things play out the next few yrs

Just saying, but you were a tier-two FB program when you joined the SEC.

Nobody believes the Top 6 will be the Top 6 every year What I'M saying is they got that way for a reason. They've CONSISTENTLY been up there under the entirety of the SEC. Sure, they'll have SOME down seasons (like TN and AU are this year), but in more years than not, they're in the Top 6, and have won substansial things before. I don't believe Arkansas will ever get to that consistency in the SEC, because it's just too tough for a FB program like Arkansas.

Like what? You did much better in a much weaker conference. I think that's pretty much fact. However, the one very good program that was in the conference, still dominated you pretty well (Texas won what - about twice as many SWC titles, a few more natl. titles and beat you about 2 out of every 3 matchups during the SWC years?)

Arkansas is a Big 12 program stuck in the wrong conference.

Do you know the difference between a fact and an opinion?

Do you really think that Fl was a power before the 90s?

As far as Texas is concerned, didn't bama kinda' own all of you in the SEC back in the good old days? Lsu was good, for example, but bama owned you then as I recall. The past is hardly an issue.

I've tried to be reasonable, and you are a bit of an anti-Arkansas guy. Fine by me.

I've agreed that we need to prove ourselves, and you continue to be snide.

Basically, you've continued to have your pissing contest instead of the discussion you alluded to earlier.

I leave you the last word.

You appear to be the epitome of the 'ranter'

Arkansas > Atlanta Falcons. Pro football sux, period.
I think Petrino will make noise every year, I think he'll be battling it out for at least 3rd spot in the SEC West before long and possible a little bit higher, some years. My guess on the next few years and the SEC west by tier:

tier one
Bama
Lsu

tier two
Auburn
Arky
Ole Miss

and I think any of the tier two could easily be tier one at any time. Gotta love the SEC.

I never claimed they were, and no, they weren't.

Yes, they certainly have an edge over the entire SEC historically, however, it's quite clear the rest of the Big 6 has caught up. LSU has won 2 National Titles in the past 5 years. Florida has won 2 National Titles in the past 12 years. Tennessee won one 10 years ago. Auburn had an undefeated season 4 years ago. Georgia has been significantly improved under Richt and close to playing for a NC.

Arkansas hasn't been anywhere near those programs in the SEC since arriving. you haven't "caught up" nor will you. It's simply an issue of not being able to get the type of players those schools get and get them in NUMBERS (i.e. DEPTH).

I'm not anti-Arkansas at all, just stating facts. Sorry you fail to see them.
