You can't blame that on Chavis. If he wants to go somewhere else, he has to take the opportunity while its there.
Don't blame him for leaving. Blame him for how he left.

It's not his fault your AD went ahead and signed the Asst coaches when they knew Chavis wasn't happy about something in the contract
This is bullshite. Chavis and all of the assistants were offered the extension at the same time, and Chavis allowed his assistants to sign the extensions while he was in talks with Sumlin about aTm. He told no one on the staff, including Miles, that he was interested in the aTm gig and was going to wait until after the bowl game to tell them and the players. Chavis fricked LSU because he wanted his $400K bowl bonus, plain and simple.

Why do you think they're having such a shitty time finding a DC?
Is that the status, that they're having a shitty time? Or just more speculation?
Assuming they are, there's probably a lot more involved than just that, don't you think?

Never just assume a coach will stay.

Why the hell is this Chavis' problem or duty?
Isn't this the duty of our stupid arse AD? Isn't this at the top of his list of duties?
Doesn't it make sense that you secure the DC before wrapping up all the assistants to long term contracts?

First let me say, I like Chavis & thank him for his time here.
But I think this will be a good thing for LSU when it's all said and done.

When the coach doesn't inform anyone that he is looking elsewhere, there is no reason to assume he isn't staying. Chavis was very unprofessional with the way he handled the situation.
ETA: You don't quit your job or leave for another company without giving prior notice, unless you want to be considered an unprofessional dick.

You are a little naive if you think this does not happen quite often.

Seriously? You don't think Chavis has a duty to tell his staff that he's considering another position? You're would be ok with one of your coworkers just up and quitting without any notice and leaving you to pick up the slack?

You're stupid if you think coaches leave "quite often" without informing the rest of their staff and administration at least a week prior.

Well, I agree with this.

I'm saying this is more of a priority for the AD. You have to manage properly and be prepared for potential issues, whether they be right or wrong. Surely in today's college coaching environment you prepare for a situation like the one that just happened.
And from what I've heard, Alleva and Chavis had some discussions regarding his contract and Alleva was a dick about it. He created a difficult situation for LSU and made it even worse when it became a critical issue.
So I place all of the responsibility on him.
