Denbrock got his first shot to be OC at ND in 2014. After one year, he was "promoted" to AHC 2015-2016. It is widely believed that Kelly was the primary playcaller with the OC and Denbrock being heavily involved. ND fans referred to them as the "3-headed monster". Denbrock left for Cincy in 2017 to become their OC and primary playcaller.

Notre Dame Total Offense/Scoring Ranking

2013: No. 54/79 (Denbrock WR Coach)
2014: No. 68/74 (Denbrock OC)
2015: No. 32/38 (Denbrock AHC, Sanford OC)
2016: No. 27/34 (Denbrock AHC, Sanford OC)
2017: No. 62/53 (Chip Long OC)

Cincinnati Total Offense/Scoring Ranking

2016: No. 6/38 (Zac Taylor OC)
2017: No. 99/123 (Denbrock OC
2018: No. 101/110 (Denbrock OC)
2019: No. 11/23 (Denbrock OC)
2020: No. 23/17 (Denbrock OC)
2021: No. 57/11 (Denbrock OC)

Interesting to note that Sanford left ND to be HC at Western Kentucky but was fired in two year. He then went on to be OC at Utah, Minn, and is now OC at Colorado.

The 2016 Cincy team was 4-8 and played from behind much of the season. Tuberville was fired that year. Fickell took over and went 11-2, 11-3, 9-1, and 13-1, all with Denbrock at OC.

I'm not thrilled about the hire but I'm not ready to say it's bad. I'm hoping Peetz stays on to help modernize whatever Denbrock Brings. I think Peetz needed help in playcalling even though he's got a good mind for the game which hopefully we can utilize with an experienced playcaller reigning things in.

There’s only one coaching spot available and it’s WR, probably going to be Hankton.

The same only way Peetz stays in any capacity is as an analyst.

Did I miss something? We’re supposed to get Cortez Hankton? Is he a good coach and recruiter? UGA like him?

There have been reports Kelly has had a lot of good communication with Peetz and likes his mind for the game. Are you saying Brian Kelly is stupid?

Credit to emanresu.

Cincinnati was also 9th in the nation at yards per play this year, so their scoring offense wasn't that skewed this season.

quote:

If you want to go further and compare apples to apples, you can G5-adjust the yards per play to see how Cinci fared against teams on their level. When you do that, Cinci averaged 7.18 yards/play, which is good for about 3rd in the nation.

Go from NFL position coach, to LSU OC and then accept a demotion to an off field role at LSU?

If he accepts that kind of hit to his career trajectory then he’s dumber than I thought.

A lot of former head coaches have been analysts under Saban at Bama so I don't see why it would be a knock on him to stick around under Kelly for a season. He was paid very well for the limited time hes been at LSU, so I'm sure he's willing to stick around to learn a bit assuming there are no better opportunities.

Those are guys who have been to mountain top. Most have already proven to be good at some area of the game and either failed running his own program or got run off due to scandal.

Peetz on the other hand has proven nothing and will prove nothing in an analyst role. He needs to go be a position coach or OC at a smaller school.

I think a lot would depend on the contract language surrounding Peetz’ buyout. If Peetz would void the second year of his contract by taking a job somewhere else, he might accept an analyst role for a year to collect that salary.

Boring can still win. I expect better when he is combined with Kelly.

Couple of things to keep in mind:

1 Cincy went 13-0 and was the first G5 in the playoffs. Not boring.

2 Lester trolls the internet as a hobby. Definitely boring.
