And has, by NCSTATE standards, been pretty good there as well.

Anyone who can take NIU to a 12-2 season and 11-3 season has at least SOME coaching skill, imo.

Dooley went 5-7 at LATECH the year vols hired him.

Mike London had a solid record at the University of Richmond where he won a national championship. He was terrible at UVa though.

-

Is Dave Doeren really all that good though? Let’s compare him to Tom O’Brien.

TOB was 40 and 35 at NC State, going 22-26 in ACC play.

DD is 33-30, although just 15-25 in conference play.

But perhaps we should use TOB’s record at the five year mark.

Well, he was also 33-30, although slightly better in ACC play at 18-22.

He's an excellent coach and NC State was better this year than they have been in many years

I don’t think the numbers really bear that out. Yes they’re better, but no better than they were under TOB. TOB went 8-5 in his fifth year. Doerens team is currently 8-4, in his fifth year as coach.

If I was a Vol, I wouldn’t be feeling too excited right now.

He was Bielema’s DC at Wisconsin so it could be possible.

He is barely avg. playing in the ACC. I doubt he will be any better trying to make his way through an SEC gauntlet. If hired, this will make no sense to me. Hell, they got Tee Martin who is a hell of a recruiter, practically asking for the job and Lane Kiffin who I think would take it as well. Then don't forget Les Miles. This would be firing Butch Jones to hire Butch Jones, imo

Supposedly he’s a huge douche off the field too. His recruiting has been bad as well. He would get killed in the SEC.

If you think Doeren is a decent coach then you don't follow the ACC. He's the definition of average and borderline underachieves. This was their all-mighty year where they were loaded with seniors and somehow found a way to lose to South Carolina and didn't even win the division.

He's terrible at recruiting and is such a tool. After losing to Clemson this year he went on some hysterical rant about how we had an illegal laptop on our sidelines. Turns out it was one of our social media dorks dicing videos and posting them to Instagram.

The dude is such a mental midget. He would destroy that program.

Were at rock bottom. It's doubtful the special teams coach from Akron would even take the job at this point.

Brady Hoke will end up Poking their arse for 3.5 million in a few weeks. Their recruits are probably moving on, and the only thing remotely close to resembling a coaching search at this point is painting a rock every couple of days.

So you're saying he and UT fans deserve each other?

Butch Jones has accomplished this several times.

Entering this season Doeren was 9-23 vs. the ACC and 0-15 against teams that finished with at least nine wins.

Seems perfect for Tennessee.

If you think Kiffin/Dooley/Jones haven't already destroyed the Tennessee football program, then you don't follow the SEC.

And also to be fair the ACC has been unusually good the past couple years with Clemson, Miami, FSU, VT.

NCST was 8-4 and 6-2 in conference, finishing 2nd in their division. It's not terrible considering they aren't a stellar program

He also did it with Jerry Kill's foundation.
