Yeah I’m scratching my head when O tried to force a circle through a square hole.

Does anyone else think that if Jones just goes to another team for a couple years as a positional coach or co-DC where there is an established guy (like UGA, Bama, Baylor, etc.), he could come out in a few years as a legitimately elite DC candidate?

He’s been a DC at a small school before

I didn't post this on the Tiger Rant. This isn't about LSU

Elko is elite. LSU could be so lucky to have Elko come over, but he may be offered bigger opportunities.

Don’t really care about Jones and his future. Kudos to a well called game last night though.

Elko is likely looking at some HC offers this off-season

I think Daronte has potential and just got hired too quickly when he wasn't quite ready to completely run a defense (in a situation where he had no option to learn on the job over a couple of years under a complete moron who doesn't understand defense at all).

I wouldn't be surprised if O forced some of the 4 man fronts, given the diversity of fronts we saw last night, and how oddly aggressive Clark was in particular. Over two DCs since we moved to the 4-3, we've been far less aggressive in terms of blitzing and fronts. Jones's defense last night was honestly amazing.

LSU is not a place where you learn. We're not here to develop a coach. You either instantly show production or get canned. He's not a good DC. He may be improving it's hard to say, but we're not letting him stick around to find out. Bama's offense is a failure and any offense he has played with a pulse he has shite the bed against this year. He also makes zero adjustments. No. He will probably go back to being a position coach if anything.

Possibly, but first thing's first -- we need a damn strong HC before we start talking about DCs years down the line.

I thought the D looked good last night but also thought Bama’s game plan was kind of bland, run right at them. Not much of the misdirection fakes that have given LSU trouble. Young missed on a few big plays in the air.

That being said, the job done with the guys he had available was admirable. No outside pass rush, but he made up for it with the blitz. Farrell was a wrecking ball. Thought both Baskerville & Clark played really well.

He's not coasting, he had to learn on the job.

I don’t think he was coasting and randomly woke up. The defense has splashed in spurts, but was held back by the extremely rudimentary scheme and Jones learning the ropes. They finally cut it loose last night.

Bringing Jones in and moving Clark more outside was a good move. Logan, Roy and Farrell were excellent.

I do think O is part of it, but there’s no hard evidence to back up that assumption. I think learning on the job is more to blame.

We were able to set the edge the entire night. It was very nice to see Cam Lewis looking like Vintage Jesse Daniels on the blitz.

Yes I see something in him.
Look at what he did v Mississippi St. v Alabama v Florida.

These were three completely different game plans and styles. Drop zone, full on attack, combo, etc.

He seems to understand the nuances of game planning versus an opponent’s strengths, but I don’t know that he understands yet or even has the current personnel to even create a consistent identity. This one year with all these “injuries,” defections, whatever. It’s a weird year.

But there seems to be something there.

Honestly, if Aranda is HC then Daronte can stay. The condition being Aranda still coaches the defense. Kinda like the saban mushchamp arrangement.

Aranda gets placed with a failed DC being demoted making a huge salary? Seems like a great arrangement.

We've seen the "he's improving" shite multiple times this year. Then Kentucky runs it down his throat or Ole Miss does whatever they want etc. I'm sure he's been held back a lot by O's basics ideas of run mah defense, but Daronte is a scrub.
