USA today reported buyout figures for these guys are freaking astronomical:

-> Dabo Swinney ($47.5 million)
-> Lincoln Riley ($25.2 million)
-> Mel Tucker ($19.3 million)

LINK

I realize it’s been reported that money won’t impede LSU from hiring it’s top candidate, but I find it hard to believe our boosters would be willing to pony-up roughly $50 million to hire Lincoln Riley or Mel Tucker.

And that’s roughly what the figure would come too - starting with Orgeron‘s $17 million, on top of a $20 million buyout & fat new contract for one of these guys (allegedly in the $9-$11 million/year range). Actually, after the remainder of Pelini’s buyout and current assistant’s contracts, it could stretch closer to $55 million).

I hate to be a Debbie downer, but figures this large just seem unreasonable to me. And if we were to remove those three candidates (Dabo, Riley & Tucker) from the board, logic would lead me to believe one of the following ends up being the hire:

(1) Jimbo Fisher or
(2) Billy Napier

That’s the buyouts owed to them if fired.

A coach has 2 different buyouts in their contact :

1. Buyout paid to coach if fired without cause (usually a very large amount)

2. Buyout paid to school if coach leaves for another job

-these 2 buyouts are completely different amounts and 2 completely separate clauses in the contract

Yeah, I knew about the two separate clauses that you were referring too.

QUESTION: are the amounts reported above and in USA Today report the amounts that would be owed to coaches if fired without cause (as opposed to amount that would be owed the school if coaches left program of his own volition)??

Ahh, $hit, my bad on that. Did not realize those amounts were the guaranteed portion of contract that would be do coaches if they were fired without cause.

My mistake, and thank you for clarifying

It really is shocking how people can’t grasp how buyouts work.

Jim I has the highest buyout figure in history right now. Reported earlier this season at 45.6 million this year

If you spend any amount of time on this board nothing will surprise you.

Hate to bust your bubble but there is a ZERO % chance Jimbo comes here. Our admin/boosters were so disgusted with him after the last coaching search in 2016 that he's not even getting a call.

If he's fired, not if he leaves for another school

There can be a third also. A personal buyout if a coach chooses to accept another job. Not sure who, if any, coaches have one. Been reported the Fisher has one, but no idea if it's true.
