Saban jumps ship to PSU and goes against Urban Meyer for B10 supremacy.

Alabama: Saban just offered up that no team has contacted him about speaking with Kirby Smart.
Doesn't mean no team has contacted jimmy sexton about CNS. I can see it now," sorry bama Jopa is calling me home"

Petrino.
He sees the writing on the wall.
This is as good as he's going to be able get Arky to be, and he still has to contend with Miles and Saban.
PSU would be a much easier gig, plus he's known for bolting a program at a moments notice.
If you really think PSU is going to pay over $20 million dollars just to get Petrino and thats not even counting the $4+ million a year that it will take for him to even consider PSU, then you are pretty delusional. They are not going to invest around $40 million dollars for a coach at this point, when they have no idea how their program will even be affected. And besides, weren't they paying Paterno like, $1.5 million a year or something?
Edit: My mistake. Paterno was making around $500k or so a year.

word on the street is that it's mullen.
apparently it's his dream job.
would be interesting to see him and meyer in the same conference again.

PSU can afford to pay just like other big schools, it's just that old man river never seemed to care. Dont fool yourself into thinking they won't shell out the cash.
I think Mullen would be a bad idea, but I honestly have no alternatives at this point.

Mullen's teams are competitive. You could do a lot worse.

I think people outside of the SEC underestimate how hard it actually is to win at State. The fact that he has them in back to back bowl games and actually competetive in most games is a hell of a job imo. He would do well at a school that could actually recruit with the big boys of his conference.

I have no doubt they can, but the question is will they at a time like this? And I could easily see them paying around $2 - $3 million, but not the $4+ million for Petrino like that LSU fan was saying. Mullen would probably cost around $2 million a year and I think he would definitely take it.

They can afford the SEC pay range, but you are right the question is will they. The looming civil suits might hold them back. I've reviewed Mullen's resume and it wouldn't be that bad I guess, but wishful thinking had me thinking a bigger name. Maybe a lesser name is what's needed for a team rebuilding from the ground up.

The suits may hold them back, but I think it has more to do with public perception. They don't need to pay a coach $4 million when people are scrutinizing every little detail right now. Lets just say, breaking the bank on an elite coach isn't high on PSU's priority list right now. And you have to realize, an elite coach isn't going to want to come at this time and Mullen winning at MSU is quite an impressive feat. And he could finally get a top tier offense in Happy Valley.
