So you are worried about the national perception of the hire?

Because I can assure you that the national media considers guys like Campbell, aranda, Tucker, and Napier to be hires of similar quality and perception.

Just because people here don’t think they are similar quality does not mean that is not the perception nationally

If LSU ended up with a guy like Napier or Campbell instead of aranda, the national perception would not be that LSU really screwed up and went digging at the bottom of the barrel because those guys aren’t aranda

Riley to LSU would shock the CFB world.

Everyone expecting a Napier/Campbell type hire

Yes, it’s typical of idiots to be opposed to hiring a coach with ONE good season as a head coach. Just the pinnacle of idiocy.

ending up with Stoops or Napier is an incredible fail

Stoops yes. Napier has been in the conversation since the beginning. He's one of the 1st names mentioned in any HC search and he's probably going to Florida or VT. There are recruits in Louisiana and Texas that will follow him to Florida. How many kids do you think are clamoring to get to BR and play for Mark Stoops.

Generally thought Dabo takes over at Bama when Saban retires.

Some of are such drama queens

I've learned that most people on this board think an AD should just be able to go grab any coach they really want, as long as they have a chunk of money to offer.

They don't consider that a coach may not want to leave where they're at for various reasons, including family, familiarity, love for their program, a relationship with their current AD and players, etc.

They think if Woodward doesn't land a coach, he either didn't want that coach all along or Woodward did something wrong. It can't possibly be that the coach doesn't put money first when making a decision to jump, noooooo. It can't possibly be that the coach doesn't want to be in the pressure cooker known as the SEC west with Saban and a host of other great coaches, where you're fired less than 2 years after winning it all, nooooo.

It must all be Woodward's fault

We're so delusional on this board that we've lost touch with the fact that most coaching hires are of this quality, either lower P5 hires or high performing G5 hires. That's the history of the coaching carousel for the most part.

We're deranged into thinking that we're supposed to go and take a top 5 coach away from his team where he's made 3 playoffs, or it's a failure.

Well we pretty much did do it in baseball and women’s basketball, but football is a whole different animal.

My dream scenario is it’s Riley, he’s here for 5 years, wins at least 1 national title, gets us back to prominence, then reunites with Kyler in the nfl and tFOLDER comes home for 20+ years

I could see Dave wanting to coach the nfl some day though too

The coaching dynamics are a bit different but when you’re that good at coaching defense you wanna test yourself at the highest level of the game.

Tucker and Aranda? Damn, two bullets dodged, even though neither were candidates.

He still hasn’t had a real break through team there in ten years, just been mediocre in a very down SEC East

Stoops had a 10-win season and top-12 finish the same year UGA and UF went to NY6 bowls. Tennessee was the only team in the East to not go bowling.

Well yeah, the money thrown around with these football coaching contracts dwarfs those other sports.
