Someone rightly pointed out in another thread that alot of folks wanted Hal Hunter to stay on after his interim stint in 1999. Those people had to settle for Saban.
When Arnsparger left, the players and many fans got their way and Mike Archer was promoted to HC. Definition of insanity.
I'm sure the big donors remember that, and will put as much pressure as possible to avoid history repeating itself. Ultimately it's Alleva's decision. I know he's had a couple PR snafu's in the past, but he's no dummy and I believe he understands what's at stake with this hire.

It's sad that a part of me wants O to get the job to see how folks like you would react when he inevitably falls on his face when the adversity comes and the love fest wears off. Then, I realize that it would hurt us all on top of setting the program back even further.
The next 5 weeks will tell the tale.
Oh, and if this is indeed an audition for him to get this job, then he should be required to beat Bama at home, at night. Pretty much everyone agrees that this team has the potentential to win it all. Let's see the savior make it happen.

I've said this in so many threads it stupid.
You jackasses have no idea what is a at stake here. The wrong hire can set us back 10 years and you want to keep a failed HC who, outside of his stint as an interim, has been nothing more than a really good position coach. It's not about winning on emotion, which is what we are seeing. What happens when the emotions of this season are gone? What happens when he has to step into the office and actually BUILD A frickING PROGRAM!?! There is a reason the man wasn't hired as a HC after his USC days. There's a reason no big name program would consider him regardless of what he does at LSU this season. Texas won't be after him, USCw won't be after him, hell fricking Houston may not ever go after him.
Stop looking at is through Louisiana colored glasses and look at the facts. He's beaten two really shitty teams and made this team play on pure emotion. All he's done to the offense is change formations. It's not a new offense, it's not even a sexy offense, it's just the same base plays out of different formations and people like you think the man came in a reinvented the wheel. If you would prefer to hire CEO over Herman or Jimbo or Fleck or Fedora or Fuente or even fricking Chip Kelly then you have absolutely no idea what is at stake and the value these individuals bring to the table. CEO is a great man and a great representative of Louisiana, but he is a TERRIBLE solution for LSU in the long run.

Exactly , O doesn't need to build from scratch. He needs to recruit at the highest level(already proven), field a dynamic offense (in the process of proving) and represent the program well ( already proven). I remember when he was being considered for a staff position comments like scumbag and don't want that pos near the program. He proved you wrong then and he'll prove you wrong now.

Many times it's a useful argument. But when most AD's never played a down of football, it doesnt hold water since they are THE guys evaluating coaches.

I can guarantee you that LSU is in a position to hire one of the aforementioned names. To settle for O over any of them is a waste for the program.
