Coach O from a Tennessee Fan's Perspective.

First off, I have no clue where Coach O will end up. However, alot of credible people close to Tennessee really feel confident about our chances of landing Coach O. Yet credible people close to LSU seem to think O is Baton Rouge bound. I just wanted to present you guys with why Tennessee fans think O will be wearing orange next fall.
Why O will be at Tennessee
1) As someone who has watched Chavis for 15 years, (btw congrats on getting Chief) I simply can not picture Coach O working under Chief. Talk about a clash of personalities...
2) Chief probally wants to bring Brooks with him to coach DL. Chavis is very loyal to his assistants
3) Coach O and Lane Kiffin are good friends, they coached and recruited together back at USC. Coach O and Miles.....well probally not so much.
4) Coach O would probally enjoy working under a legend like Monte...who knows.
5) $$$ is not an issue at Tennessee. (not that LSU dosen't have $ either)
That is just the perspective of most UT fans. I look foreward to reading yall's responses. BTW I always enjoy reading this board.

this is not on the table right now. he's not even in the top 3 for the DL position according to most reports

But wouldn't it be up to Chavis who is brought on?
Posted on 12/29/08 at 11:11 pm to ole orange
was chavis named head coach?
Posted on 12/29/08 at 11:11 pm to ole orange
I think Miles has always hired all the assistants

The wife/family factor is crucial, but I don't think anyone REALLY knows how they feel about this except for the Orgerons.

LSU has been talking to Orgeron since before Chavis. So if O is an strong possibility, that has already been worked out.
Coach O to Tennessee is mostly conjecture.
Meanwhile, he has said publicly and privately that he has interest in the LSU post and that he would like to stay in state.

Based on history, no.
There is always a chance that Chavis made this part of the agreement though.
Nobody knows for sure, but the information that is leaking out doesn't seem to indicate that being the case.

I really doubt O wants to move the family again. Plus, Louisiana is home. He will stay with the Saints or go to LSU. Nothing else.

it depends. LSU has the home advantage and UT has the advantage of dangling a future DC job in front of him. We'll see what O wants more

I have been chatting on volnation about this
That maintain that since lane is only getting 2 mill and we pay Les 3.75, they have much more room to asst coaches big money
Monte is reportly going to get over 1.2 a year! Wow!
reports of 650k offer to O That a bit out of LSU' range IMO..we could match it but it would create other problems, Les will move to plan b I am sure

Would it be fair to say that O's heart is with LSU (i.e. won't move family, Cajun boy), and that his head is with Tennessee (i.e. possible future DC at UT, likes Lane and Monte, coaching under Miles and Chief could be rough) ??

we could easily match it but I don't see us paying a position coach that. Its stupid and would probably piss off our other coaches. I'm sure Porter would be a little pissed since he's been a good position coach and great recruiter
Paying Brick Haley and Vance Joseph is just as good in my book

You could argue that there is no guarantee little Kiffen will last long enough to give the DC job to O down the road
