Clearly Pruitt is a goner, so is UT working to secure Freeze behind the scenes

It's doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that Pruitt will not be the HC next year. There has always been talk about Freeze being the next guy at UT, so has anyone heard of any negotiating going on behind the scenes? IMO, the only reason UT hasn't cut the ties with Pruitt is they want to be able to fire him with cause, which eliminates the big buyout.

If it's not Freeze, who else is a serious candidate for the job?

Tennessee is going to fire Pruitt for cause due to NCAA violations and then hire Hugh fricking Freeze?

I do not believe that will happen.

He won't get something better.

He flopped at OSU. Urban came in the next year and they went 12-0.

Tennessee is his ceiling.

It won’t. At this point the best thing for UT would be to just name an interim coach for the 2021 season. That would allow them to conduct a proper search in the late fall. Unfortunately that probably won’t happen and we’ll end up with Doug Marrone or some G5 coach.

Well of course he did. He lost his star quarterback to the supplemental draft a week after being handed the job. Plus had other starters who were suspended for multiple games that fall.

I'm not defending Fickel, because I think he made some horrible coaching decisions against Georgia.

But it's hard to judge someone, good or bad, on how they perform on an interim basis.

I live in Big Ten Country and work closely with the U of I..

Fickell is liked, but not loved in coaching circles. There is a reason he isn't rumored anywhere.

Why? It's not like there have been a bunch of openings filled this year. Who are you going to hire next fall who's not available now? You're likely going to be hiring a guy from a mid level P5 or or upper level G5 program anyway.

Because the timing is awful. The investigation is supposed to wrap up sometime next week, so The earliest that Pruitt will be fired is late next week. A lot of guys aren’t going to leave their current situation in late January. Especially without knowing if there will be significant NCAA sanctions from the recruiting violations.

Fisher would be an interesting hire. My concern if I were a UT fan is can he recruit to the level that is needed to be successful in the SEC. The NFL and college football are two totally different worlds.

I would think they would go with a safer hire that has some college football experience. Also, with Fisher I don't know if he can handle the tremendous pressure of being an SEC HC.

I may be totally wrong and he might turn out to be the next Nick Saban. If anything, Fisher would be a very intriguing hire for sure!
