Apex, what you posted and i suppose recruiting in general is the only drawback on Miles waiting to announce a new DC. however, i still believe he handled the situation very well.

We need Coach O on their asses! Stop messing around here, and let's get coach O signed.

im a huge "O" fan....its no longer gonna be the "X" factor in general terms...it now becomes the "O" factor

Coach O reminds me of the Defensive Coach for the Water Boy. The one no one can understand.

I think mininmal at this point. The only two it would have an impact is with Jarvis Jones Montgomery. If we lose Lane, it might not matter with Montgomery.

The article says Chavis chose LSU's more lucrative offer over Clemson's. Maybe it was announced by LSU when the negotiations were complete. Miles can't announce shite until then. I love how everyone believes he handled it "wrong".

FWIW, you might sign a Safety around the 210 lb range who puts on 10-15lbs and plays OLB. That happened quite a bit here.

We have a ton of safeties who fit that mold, so he will have plenty to choose from.

where exactly would he be recruiting them to? Is he starting his own team?

Though not known for his recruiting prowress, he has been at Tennessee for a long time. He probably knows, by name, 250 to 300 HS coaches. He also has had regular contact with 400 to 500 prospects, some of which have just finished their senior season.
It was not a ridiculous question. He was recruiting for Tennessee until just a few weeks ago. He didn't go to some magic "brain flushing" session.

no impact this year, but if the TN team still remains in the shitter, then it might be good for a recruit from that area in the future.

of course you cant announce a hiring until after its official. im sure miles has a very good reason for the way he handled this search/hiring. i just wondered if this was taken care of sooner rather than now (assuming miles knew all along he wanted Chavis) if it would've impacted recruiting in any way.

He won't have an impact on recruiting because he doesn't recruit. He never has.

I'll agree partially... we doesn't recruit well.

He actually was a very good recruiter under Johnny Majors when he first got here.

Well, as defensive coordinator I mean.
I don't think it will be a problem for LSU, though.

as someone has posted in another board, he doesnt have to be a recruiter to have some kind of impact on certain recruits.

I'm pretty sure Chavis isn't a good recruiter or recruits very minimum, much like Pelini/Mallory were for us.
