Chavis is a great DC, and it will be out loss if he leaves. All of you who disagree obviously didn't watch the enormous improvement this year, and a defense that kept us in many games as the offense sputtered. Big, Big loss if he leaves.

Yea, and this "great" defense managed their time so well that our offense was lucky to get 50 plays in per game because the "great" defense could not get off the field. 3rd and Chavis.

He is good, but not great. As for me, no raise. If he can get more than 500k, I tell him to go for it. He ain't that great.

All this praise about him turning us around from the 2008 co dc debacle...hey, if you are at the bottom, the only way to go is up. That's why we hired him. To coach up.

Me, I hope he goes to Georgia.

OBUDan, Chavis is an above average coordinator. Our defense lacked two things last season:

1) Organization/Lack of Confusion

2) Horrible DB play/personnel choices

We actually were better at stopping the run last year. Actually got sacks, and while we gave up lots of points, we gave up 16 pg this year and about 20 (when yuo take out pick 6's) last year and even less if you take out the number of picks thrown brought back inside our 20.

Having a structured and organized defense is important, but being horrible at 3rd down defense (44th this year as opposed to 12th last year under the 2-headed moron). Doesn't sound that great to me.

Our defense gave up the big play last year. This year we gave up fewer big plays but also sacrificed HEAVILY our offensive opportunities for that.

I think his work is fine, it just doesn't rise to the level of kissing his arse and paying him $600K. It just isn't kosher to threaten to leave your employer after only one year, with a slightly above average performance and the threat of getting more money from a competitor- all the while getting paid more than what you are legitimately worth and more than what others at your position are currently being paid. That amounts to professional extortion, in my mind. Obviously I don't mean extortion in the criminal sense of the word.
