@LonghornNetwork
Charlie Strong on Miami, "It's all a rumor. We're here to build a program. That's why I came here."

He called for an unscheduled press conference to insist he is not going anywhere. Of course, I have heard him say that before

Saban: No interest in Alabama. Why would I go to that crap place for?

Alabama: We would like to announce the hire of Nick Saban.

My gut feeling this is...

1) He wants the Miami job.

2) Doesn't have the offer yet.

3) Wants to put rumors to rest until the regular season is done and if he gets the offer, he leaves for Miami.

IMO, he belongs in Miami. That is where he has spent 17 years of his coaching career.

I don't believe anything anyone says until I see a coach at a press conference wearing a new tie.

I figure the deal has already been made for him to leave and take the Miami job... a clean break, a mutual parting.

That would be the best scenario for both parties at this point. I have been unimpressed with the coaching abilities of the Texas staff. Time to move on.

Sounds like something that somebody leaving would say.

Charlie is thinking to himself, "I am in a honky hoedown. Gotta get to south beach."

Out of all the rumors we will hear this coaching cycle, Charlie to Miami is by far the most outlandish. Why would he quit "the best" job in college football to take a pay cut doing the same thing (rebuilding a program) somewhere else? Crazy talk. "His family" is best served earning two extra million a year at Texas, or forcing them to pony up the full buyout in a year from now.

And that assumes he is wanted at Miami, which not many Miami fans seem to support due to his struggles at Texas.

This is all wish fantasies on the part of more knowledgeable Texas fans and associated media because they know otherwise Charlie gets another year to sink the program further in the hole.

When in doubt, trust the pros. He isn't on the list:

Am I wrong for thinking that the right black coach at Miami would be a dynamite hire?? I don't mean that in a negative way either

I think he'd have a good shot at reviving that program

Just because he's black doesn't mean he is a good recruiter. In fact, Strong has a reputation of being a pretty poor recruiter. There was a story on Grantland about how two of the top HS football coaches have never met Strong personally. All of the recruiting were done by his assistants. I don't see him being able to keep the top local area kids in Miami.

He'd dominate at Miami within 3-4 years. Tough defense, great pro style offense at Louisville, and can really recruit in Florida.

Mike Leach would do way better at the U. His "don't give a shite for authority" attitude would resonate in Dade County.

Leach has a place about 40 miles south of there in the keys. He wanted the job years ago but all that bullshite at TT fricked him out of it. Now I am not sure.

Those are best two picks to Miami.

Why is his family in quotes? Are you implying he doesn't have a family?

No, that was me mocking the original article that really got this Charlie going to Miami crap started:

quote:

There’s obviously the largely unspoken cultural subtext to the 1st African-American football coach at the University of Texas. Strong has said Texas is the best job in college football, but as Feldman noted on FS1, that may not mean he thinks it is the best situation for him and his family.
