VaTech has a higher ranked recruiting class than GTech almost every year...so GTech still does far more with less...as does Wake Forest.

dude, GT hasn't been near as good as VT in the last 5-6 years, you're not saying anything here. they recruit a little better and have a better program as of late, seems like everything is how it should be.

Anyway...
I did not say we performed better...I said we did more with less. Also keep in mind that VT recruits only have to meet NCAA min's...GT admissions is much tougher..
for football:
1) 3.0 GPA in core
2) 1000 SAT min on old scoring system
3) 4 years of math (High school only req's 3)
4) 4 years of science (High school only req's 3)
5) 2 years of foreign language

All of this makes it even more surprising that we have the 4th longest bowl streak in the nation...only behind FSU, Florida, and VaTech...tied with UGA for fourth.

our average incoming freshman (non-football) is 1400 on old scoring system and 3.8 GPA.

I won't get into the acedemic requirements needed to get into Tech. I just said that it just makes perfect sense that the team who recruits a little better has fared much better over the last few years. The two comparisons, recruiting and records, don't make me think that GT is doing anything more than VT is with their talent. Why bust my chops about DUDE?

Well...my answer to that is Michigan, Texas, Southern Cal, Tennessee, Miami, Notre Dame, etc. have not done well enough in some seasons to even make the Emerald (which is not that bad...Pac-10 #4) and Humanitarian (which stinks all the way around).

There is no one right answer here.

In terms of on-field performance...VaTech has the best winning percentage of anyone in our conference since 2000 with a 74%. Our winning percentage during this stretch is 62%...not bad for a team with an average recruiting record of #50...while VaTech has done almost twice as well with recruiting classes averaging #28. There are just not too many teams with a 62% winning percentage, along with no losing seasons, and also cannot post a higher recruiting ranking average than 50.

Now...when you combine on-field and off-field...I am much more happy than VaTech. I like the fact that our kids tend to stay out of trouble off the field and represent the school well. You do not see our kids fighting with each other on the sidelines...and getting into off-field trouble like you see at VaTech.

So....overall...I think we have been far more successful than VaTech since 2000 both in overall performance....particularly respective how we do with what we have. I would not trade our situation with theirs.

That is just me though....just my opinion. It is not fact or anything like that and I am sure many would disagree with me.

2006:
The first half of Virginia Tech's season was characterized by a lack of discipline for the Hokies, both on and off the field.

Safety Aaron Rouse was penalized twice against Duke for roughing the passer. His second hit on Duke quarterback Thaddeus Lewis was a helmet-to-sternum hit that whiplashed his head with such force that it gave him a concussion. Duke's backup quarterback said of Tech, "They are a fast team. I'm lucky to come out in one piece. ... The roughing of the passer, the late hits, they were coming for us." [7]
DE Chris Ellis and WR Josh Morgan were arrested late Saturday night after the Hokies' victory over Cincinnati and charged with resisting arrest and obstructing justice. Morgan was also charged with disorderly conduct. Both players were suspended for the following game, a home loss to Georgia Tech and were later sentenced to one year of probation and 100 hours of community service. [8]
WR Josh Hyman was suspended for the Boston College game after an arrest for driving under the influence. [9]
During the ESPN broadcast of the Boston College game, announcer Kirk Herbstreit became angry when cameras showed Tech players Vince Hall and Aaron Rouse arguing on the sidelines and showed linebacker Brendan Hill dancing on the sidelines with Tech trailing late in the game. The video of Herbstreit's rant was shown to the Tech team in Sunday meetings following the game. [10]
Tech's discipline troubles came to a head when the Hokies were blown out in consecutive weeks by Georgia Tech and Boston College. Beamer responded by cracking down on trash-talking, personal fouls, and other negative behaviors. The team responded and committed no personal fouls and only two defensive penalties total in the three games following the BC loss.

2007:
WDBJ, the CBS affiliate in Roanoke, Va., broke a story this morning reporting that several Amherst County High School students had been arrested on marijuana distribution and other drug charges. Among those arrested was star quarterback Peter Rose, who in February signed a letter of intent to play football at Virginia Tech in the fall.

2008:
- Virginia Tech wide receiver Ike Whitaker was arrested Friday night on misdemeanor charges of public swearing and intoxication. He blew a .33 on his BAC test. The arrest came less than 24 hours after head coach Frank Beamer announced that the troubled quarterback-turned-wide receiver had been suspended indefinitely for violating team rules. This is Whitaker’s second arrest during his time at Virginia Tech and it appears that his playing career with the Hokies is over.
- This morning, Coach Beamer announced that sophomore wide receiver Zach Luckett is “suspended indefinitely” after being arrested for a DUI. Luckett has had some problems in the past with his attitude and his demeanor on and off the field, however, he appeared to turn the corner this spring.

....and there are many others. So....I cannot say they are much different than when Vick was there.
