We all know Wilson will lock down Louisiana, kind of what he does. So I got to looking into Brian Polian as a recruiter because I was unfamiliar with him. Turns out he has a nice little pipeline where we have seen some huge names (not just at ND) come from.

Polian's Rainbow (Hawaii) Connection
quote:

What’s also worth discussing are Polian’s ties to the state of Hawaii. Notre Dame has had a pipeline to much of the state’s top talent for years and that’s in no small part to Polian. Manti Te’o, Jordan Botelho, Marist Liufau, Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa, and Robby Toma are just a few of the Hawaii products that have gone on to big things at Notre Dame in the last decade.

An excerpt from a Jan 2021 article;
quote:

King recalls that Notre Dame sent Polian, the team's special teams coordinator, on the nearly-5,000 mile one-way trip every Thursday afternoon so that Polian could see Te'o play in person every Friday night. Once his recruiting duties were done, Polian would then jet from Hawaii to South Bend or wherever the Fighting Irish happened to be playing that Saturday, as King puts it, "sometimes making it in time for the game, sometimes missing the game."

Also Mentioned that he heavily recruits the West Coast, Texas and the Pacific Northwest.

quote:

"I do believe you can out-work people in recruiting. I don't think you can out-work people in coaching," he said. "During the season, we all grind it out pretty good. We're limited in the amount of time by the NCAA that we can spend with our players. Everybody's fairly equal when it comes to the coaching end of it. But, with the recruiting part of it, you can out-work people." - Polian

Nice to have an elite recruiter at special teams.

He coaches good special teams and will bring in elite offensive and defensive players on top of that.

I still wish mike elston would come.

Great stuff!
I really appreciate the effort you put into this.
POST MORE OFTEN

-We're next to Texas and have decent enough ties.
-Kelly & Polian's west coast pipeline.
-If they add a big time recruiter for FL...look out!

You lock down Louisiana and then have pipelines in the 3 biggest populated states.

The whole reason I started looking was because I had heard a talking head mention when Kelly was hired that Notre Dame had to venture out for every recruit and in BR he could just drive an hour or two and hit multiple top recruits. Then Wilson and Polian (both recruiters) are hired. Again, we know Wilson will put up a razor wire fence around the state. So best I could figure, Polian wasnt hired to recruit in Louisiana.

Kind of goes with this other Polian Quote I saw;
quote:

When you have assistant coaches that are willing to drive that extra 90 miles to a little town that nobody's ever heard of because there might be a kid there, and you turn over that rock and you find one of those guys that turns out to be a player, that's where you can get people

I always thought he was one of the best assistants on A&M’s 2012 staff.

That’s awesome. Although I predict a melt if LSU gets a kick blocked and Polian has not made it back to the sidelines from a trip
