He has a good QB what can he do without? Anyone remember Aggie after Johnny left?
What a stupid argument.
Name ANY coach, in the history of the game, who won anything of note WITHOUT a competent QB
You can put Saban and Lanning and Kirby and whomever else you want to put at a place like Colorado or GT without a QB, they’re losing 5 games.

Tech plays in a weak conference and Key has only had one good year (this year).

Whooooaaaa. You need to stop with that logic

Key is doing this at a school that went 9-23 over the 3 years prior to being hired.
Geoff Collins may have been the worst coach I've ever seen at a D1 program

Name a coach that does good without a good QB.
Saban had elite teams without good QBs several times. Les Miles had very good teams with bad QBs.
They are few and far between, but look at the top 10 each year the last 20 years. There are a handful each year that got there in spite of QB play.

You could argue tech had nowhere to go but up, and I certainly would agree, but it was obvious well before the OT game with Georgia that he had them moving in the right direction. I'm not sold on them being a legit top 10 team right now but if their recruiting improves to an Lsu or Uf level they will be

I’ll understand it not now in a few years if he can continue the success without Haynes king which keys has done an incredible job with. He has a lot of potential and a lot of upside. My only concern with him is the offense. I don’t think his style of offense is sustainable.

Go look at the previous HC record. The only person that has won with any sort of consistency there is Paul Johnson. GT is a historic bottom feeder.

I live in Ga., Bro in law is tech grad. I’ve watched a good bit over the past 2 seasons. His teams are disciplined, physical and tough. You know you’ll get solid LOS play. He’s changed the culture. A former OL that played under George O’Leary and coaches under Saban. Hires are a crap shoot, but he’s is considered a commodity. Schedule is a bit weak. He took UGA to the brink. Not my first choice but I wouldn’t be upset.

Which QBs were not good?
Also, I KNEW someone would pull Saban out of their arse, because that’s the easy answer.
How many 4-5* athletes surrounded these QBs that “weren’t very good”?
Miles had the same advantage with a defense LOADED with talent.
So, in the 175 years of college football, you named TWO. And those two examples were programs loaded with talent that not many people had ever seen….
That is the epitome of “exception, not the rule.”

I would like a Brent Key hire

That said, much of the success - just like Clark Lea - is due to their QB. I'd like to see what happens to both of those teams once those guys leave. Look at Deion, as an example. Did pretty well with Shedeur and Hunter, but with them gone, the ship is sinking fast.

If you know the inner workings at GT, you don't take Key without Weinke. And Weinke has done everything he can to put himself in a spot for FSU HC...now or in near future. Would be too big a gamble for LSU in this situation. Take him off the list.

his OC is damn good. runs lots of counters with multiple options on each play. haynes king looks good in that offense.

He’s a HC in his 4th season, took over a bad team but it’s his team and his players now and he’s 8-0
