Bob Stoops/ My Reasoning to LSU
Posted on 11/20/09 at 10:43 pm

THIS ONLY IF MILES LEFT LSU FOR MICHIGAN. (OR ANYWHERE ELSE)
And Since Stoops to LSU has been thought to be ridiculous by many here ....here goes.
Let me first say that there are other candidates that COULD have immense success as Head Coach at LSU. However my reasoning for being a proponent of LSU getting Bob Stoops psychologically seems to be in direct opposition to much of LSU fan base on TD and I just don’t get that.
I would think that it would be easy to understand that success should be duplicated not re-invented. bama had no problem with going after $abun the highest of high profile possibilities to fill their coaching vacancy. Essentially copying LSU’s success. They basically upped the ante on all other major programs by buying their coach and trying to buy a NC. (Stealing him from the Miami Dolphins and please gumps don’t hand me the spin on how he was ready to return to college. He was not available to all/any other schools at the time. )
WHY SHOULDN’t LSU KEEP UP with the coaching arms race created by another University in our own conference?
By that logic the best possible choice, IMO would be Bob Stoops
He has had experience in the SEC. His D was awesome, in fact he is one of only a handful of candidates that could coach a D as good as you know who. (That would very much satisfy much of LSU’s fan base.) +Dfense wins championships.
He knows how to recruit and is a great recruiter and would be a dominant recruiter at LSU since we are the major football power in the state.
He knows how to run a Major program and is use to being in the national spotlight. There is no substitute for that experience.
Finally I know he is known as Big Game Bob for his bowl struggles but I believe that is due to his team not playing tough teams week in and week out like we do here in the SEC. In other words if his OU teams were battle tested through an SEC schedule I believe his bowl record would be better. (BTW, $abuns bowl record is not all that hot.)
What’s more important is the subject matter of psychology here. These are the types of things LSU and its fans should be looking for. A proven Head Coach not necessarily the next up and coming HC. What’s the worst that could happen LSU backs up a truckload of money in his yard and he says “No” than you can go after the sexy picks…no harm for trying. FWIW I do believe LSU should on go after a “Proven HC at a major program once and than pursue the short list of sexy picks.
Why shouldn’t LSU and its fans think this way?
BTW Espn recently posed the question. “Would Bob Stoops refuse ND again if they came calling?” Timing is everything and Stoops may be ready for a change.
ADD to this that others think he may be ready for a change of scenery.
BTW You could easily insert Butch Davis in the above criteria.

No. He was known as Big Game Bob before his bowl struggles, because OU used to blow up in Bowl games and was kicking Texas' arse year in and year out.
Now the name is used sarcastically.

Meh. He gets a lot of Texas leftovers and a few guys Texas really wants and his recruiting still hasn't been stellar. OU's talent level isn't on par with LSU, Bama, FLorida, USC or even Texas. That's part of the reason they've struggled in bowls...

I don't think you make any sense what so ever. Fact is, I don't like Stoops -- he has 1 BCS title, we have two ( Les has one ), he loses most all of his big bowl games - especially BCS, and DOES HAVE TALENT EQUAL TO LSU. If Miles leaves, Jack Del Rio should be the guy -- should have been the guy, and still is the right man.

Stoops has to be the most humorless coach in football. Dude looks constipated.

Yes, really.

Oklahom's talent is as good as LSU's -- Really. Their annual big haul out of Texas is far superior to ours and they are loaded.

Wow? This is ridiculous. You must have fallen and bumped your head. OU has as much talent as any of these teams. If you don't think OU is one of the 5-8 most talented teams in the country, then you need help.

I can't believe you put so much time into that shite

Stopped reading right there.
He was going to get shitcanned in Miami. His schtick doesn't work with pro players and his dumbass knew it.

Far Fetched Coaching Change
I think all of you are missing the underlying point of this thread.
The point is the majority of this fan base does not have a balls enough to go after a proven quantity. They would rather go after the "Next big coach" . History tells us that there is a much higher percentage chance of fail with that.
MY choice to fit the criteria I described would be Stoops and gave the reasons. Thats my point most of the fans here don't have the same criteria in fact wouldn't even consider that criteria and thats pathetic. I only hope the LSU administration does not share view if they ever have to make a change.
[quote]Far Fetched Coaching Change[/quote
I wish the AD at bama would have felt this way when considering $abun .....than we wouldn't have to deal with the miserable gumps so much.
