Let’s not forget Saban could be retiring sooner rather than later... he could be padding his resume waiting for that opening.

Tennessee? Sure. So long as Fulmer is calling the shots you'll never have control over your program.

But if what is being said about Napier (and Steele, and Gustav) is anywhere near true, AU is going to fall off the map in terms of good jobs (other than a great place for a mediocre HC to get overpaid and fired after the next 3-4 years).

lol...you are trying to reason with the unreasonable. Anyone who would compare hud with Napier is more than fool, or is just pushing a hate UL agenda.

Shut it, damn it

Honestly think we will clean house in the AD, and fire any coaches with knowledge. Prolly end up losing will wade when all said and done and football program will be fine. Prolly except what we have done already plus another 5 scholarships the next year.

LSU is in a weird position with O. Do you pay the $20+ million to cut him loose if he goes worse than 8-4 or do you give him more time to lower that buyout?

O would be fired because of the sexual assault coverup and there would be no buyout

Hope it pays off for Napier, Auburn is a hell of a job compared to UL.

It's funny that you think LPSO would actually work a crash.

Kind of comes with the territory unless you’re already a big name at the P5 level and have a ton of leverage

Not many big money P5 programs that are going to give absolute control to a guy who hasn’t done it on that level yet

Tennessee and Schiano?

In that case it was only one booster who wanted Schiano. Unfortunately that guy normally gets his way. That was until all hell broke loose on a Sunday afternoon.

Don't offer the guy the job if you don't think he can fill out a staff. Seems pretty simple to me.

Michigan will hire Luke Fickell. He’s waiting on a Big 10 job and OSU isn’t opening for a long time. Michigan would be insane not to offer him. Napier would be several spots down Texas’ list because of how they see themselves, but they could end up having to go that far down the list because of how others see them.

O isn’t gone next year unless he has a losing season (unlikely) or Title 9 looks worse later than it does today. It’s possible, but far less likely than the other three.

Tennessee is his best bet on that list to be a high initial candidate, but UT fans think that job is opening up THIS off-season. Most of my family are UT fans (I’m from TN) and everyone around that program believes the investigation is a smoke screen to dump Pruitt. It may take a few weeks, but everyone believes it’s happening. I also think Freeze will be their top guy and he will probably take that job. But if he doesn’t, Napier will be as high as their 2nd choice.

I’m not saying it’s the best way to go about hiring a coach, it’s just the reality of how these dudes view how their program should be run and how they view coaches that haven’t won on the highest levels yet

I mean LSU and other programs would rather hire a guy with bad P5 coaching record than hire someone with no P5 record. And even then the boosters and admins had a big say on who in on staff from year to year

If Napier thinks he’s going to find an elite opening where he isn’t going to have to work with boasters and is going to walk in and have Saban level of control then he’s going to be waiting forever

Saban didn’t even get that until he went to Alabama after winning a national championship in the SEC at another program and they had to outbid an NFL team

Is it wrong of me to laugh at my alma mater? Because I'm and the big money boosters not being able to GTFO of their own way. Got Lowder off the BOT, then what? Next man up moves in to keep the BBQ gang BS rolling. I remember now why I dropped season tickets. Giving the dumbass Malzhan that contract extension was the last straw for me. Writing was clearly on the wall and they have should have forced Gus's hand then and said back it up before we talk. Now we are back to telling a coach we are courting who he can/cannot hire. Such BS but par for the course. Tough being a damn Auburn fan.

I'll add that I could get behind Bill Clark, hell of a damn football coach, but he'd be stupid to leave UAB as well if he can't hire his own coaching staff. Any coach would be out of their mind to try and make that kind of situation work.

Saban's done just fine at evolving and he's approaching 70. 8 years ago, did you ever think you'd see an Alabama team averaging 49.7 points per game?
