Almost the exact score! "35-21 type"
Love Coach O..... he just scares me a long time solution!

Congrats on the full time job Coach O

A 35-21 type win would tremendously bolster O's case.
what about a 38-21 type win?

the "problem" with O is that he's taken over as interim HC twice and if you could hand pick an interim HC, he is like the perfect guy. if your HC is fired during the season, obviously there are going to be some major issues in your program when he takes over. his motivation and unity stuff is perfect for that exact scenario to bring the team together to turn it around in the short term. also his recruiting mania is going to help maintain your class as he steers the ship for the season
but LONG TERM? huge, huge question mark. that motivation stuff wears out over time. also he is playing with another coach's scheme with another head man's assistant coaches. that umbilical cord is going to be cut at some point and he's going to have to develop his own philosophies, gameplans, and coaching staffs. THAT is where the major risks and question marks come in.
Note: i am not cheerleading for any other candidate with this post just explaining why coach O is a legit risk REGARDLESS of what LSU does the rest of the year. Helton went 5-1 last year with USC, similar to what O did when he took them over a few years ago. USC isn't, uh, doing so well THIS year

ANY coach is a risk.
I'm not endorsing O at all, but any of them are lottery tickets.
Solid post.
As far as coaching in the last 3 games, has there been anything any you have seen that concerns you? For me, this team has done a complete 180 ad hasn't shown a negative Les Miles characteristic since O has taken over.
ETA;
This is irrelevant. What does that have to do with O? We can bring up Helton, but we can't bring up Swinney? Just because Helton is blowing it, it means O will do the same thing?

The good news is there is no hiding for coach o with the remaining schedule. If he gets the job he will have earned it.

my point about helton is that just b/c LSU does well the rest of this year doesn't seal it
the slow starts are worrisome to me. the southern miss game was almost like a miles game (keep it close with an inferior team for a half then bust a few big plays to go ahead). we kind of did that against ole miss. however, one issue last night was our D early and that's not on O. everything picked up as the game went on
what i'm really curious about with O would be his OL philosophy. from recruiting to Xs and Ox. our OL philosophy lately has been weak and that's going to be a major issue against Bama (again).

Right. But doesn't mean just because Helton isn't very good at USC, doesn't mean anything when it comes to O and LSU. Again, if you can you use Helton as an example, why can't I use Swinney? (that's rhetorical).

Maybe idk what I'm talking about, but I feel like the OL has improved dramatically as the year has gone forward.
BAMA is going to be a dogfight. I think BAMA should be legitimately be concerned about the LSU defense
Alabama will be playing a defense with a true freshman QB that they haven seen yet and I think will give him fits and I think that's a serious concern for them since the strength of LSUs defense is their rushing defense. Hurts isn't THAT great of a passer
Now if LSU can find a way to score on Alabama, then I'd predict an LSU win. But I'm not sure Etling has a good enough arm to do so.

Winston Justice for OL coach.

knowing how O has handled things (basically he's doing what the rant wants), i think he'd try to hire Mawae

I agree with all this. I do, however, think O shouldn't be ruled out yet, but have wondered if full-time mercenary shouldn't be his best gig. Like just sit around every year and take over teams that fire their coaches mid season. Rally them together as interim, win some games, then come back to LA until the next year. Rinse repeat. He could make a ton of money and only work 3-8 weeks a year.

How bout Larry Coker? He took over after Butch Davis built the program, he used Butch's assistant coaches, he just stayed out of the way and won in the short term. Long term the program crumbled.
How bout Mark Helfrich? He took over after Chip Kelly built the program, he used Chip's assistant coaches and his stud qb and won games in the short term. Long term it has crumbled quickly.
How bout Frank Solich? He took over after Tom Osborne coached 20 something years never losing more than 3 games in a season. Solich used Tom's assistant coaches and went to two BCS bowls in the short term. Long term he endured a 7-7 season and slid to the Alamo Bowl in his last season.

For anyone hoping LSU loses just so we don't hire Coach O or who have done it in the past so we would fire Miles; it's time to take your purple and gold stripes off and turn them in.
Those kids deserve better than that. I could give a shite who the coach is as long as we win; and the football coach, whoever that may be, had my support.

No the dumb ones are the ones hoping THEIR team loses; as to not hire a guy as head coach.
So, do you want to have a rational conversation or keep gnawing on your plastic dick all morning?

I'll root for the team but would have concerns if success lead to Orgeron being appointed head coach for the next 3-5 years.
The post above RE: short term results with someone else's team sum it up pretty effectively. Especially after Aranda took a job as head coach somewhere else LSU would be staring down the barrel of inadequate coaching relative to other major programs. That was supposed to be fixed after firing Les.
