Exactly, Les Miles hiring a WR coach who has never been an OC in his life and has little experience, to be the OC of one of the top 10 programs in all of CFB, would be one of the all time worst coaching moves of the century.
Likewise, Cincinnati, after having a prolific offense for the last 3 years, setting NCAA records and getting to BCS bowls, hires the OC from LSU who is under fire from fans and responsible for one of the worst offensive outputs from a former BCS national champion in the history of CFB.

Yeah I can see as to how a Top 10 program can never think of promoting or hiring a non-OC experience candidate as a first time OC.
ETA : I am not advocating or saying that BG should be our OC - just that there is a lot of precedence for such things.

biggest RISKS, perhaps.
Worst move? We would not know until we see if it succeeds. IF, and its a HUGE "if" (thus, the risk) he was a great OC right off the bat, how would it be the worst move?

Contrary to what you or I might want or think , it is a given that Meyer is almighty in today's NCAAF. He has shown that his systems work and he has been wildly successful wherever he goes.
It would be bad to hire someone based on association alone but I am sure that BG has skills that are comparable to the other candidates regardless of that and the association doesn't hurt.
WRT Tyke the trade-off might be better recruiting (though there is nothing to suggest that he might not do a good job at coaching WRs)

I think he means that BECAUSE we don't know how good he would or would not be it would be a risky move for Miles to make at this juncture. If my job were possibly on the line I don't think I would take that kind of a gamble. But then again I'm not Miles either.

I know. That's why I said it is perhaps the biggest risk. But, there is no way to assess it as the "worst" in college history. Hell, it COULD turn out as the greatest.
