Best for me is Neal Brown. Great offensive fit in the Big XII, but he can coach toughness too. Troy was a very physical team for a G5 program. If you talk to Troy fans, they love Neal. Young energy with good experience I think is a great combo.

Under the radar: Will Healy at Charlotte. Austin Peay was maybe the worst D1 program before Healy got there. He's a very young, energetic guy who has experience program building which Charlotte needs. People called Will Healy the Dabo of FCS at Austin Peay.

Worst: Scott Loeffler at Bowling Green. I know MAC schools can't be expected to pull anybody, but Loeffler is considered by fans one of the worst OC's around. Pretty sure he was responsible for some of those awful Virginia Tech offenses in the late Beamer years.

Best: Neal Brown at WVU
Under the Radar: Matt Wells, TTU. Did a great job turning around USU also has a high power offense that fits well at TT. I think he'll do well there.

Worst: Loeffler. Also not sold on Manny Diaz at Miami (although I do understand it)

Outside of being Brady's GA in 99, coached some decent QBs at Michigan, but nothing great.

Was part of the Lions 2008 team that went to 0-16

Was OK at UF for 2009-10. John Brantley sucked in 2010.

Decent at Temple

Sucked arse at AUB in 2012 (3-9)

Meh at VT.

Agree that Loeffler at Bowling Green was the worst.

Also like Neal Brown at WV as best.

Under radar I’ll go with Klieman at K State.

Slimiest is Hugh Freeze at Liberty.

Coup is Holgerson at Houston. I think he’ll run a fun program and do very well there.

I'm not saying it was the best by any means, but Kansas made a very solid move getting Les Miles.

Yeah that Utah State team was very good. Utah State replaced him with the most meh hire ever in Gary Anderson.

I heard that Anderson never even sold his house near Utah State so his kids could use it while they went to school there.

I guess Utah State is hoping Gary Anderson is going to stay around this time because the P5 ate him up, but he's burned bridges throughout his career.

Yeah and I throw Jim Mac to Central Michigan in here as well.

Because of where the programs have been recently, getting a guy who has had success is impressive.

Compare McElwain to the other MAC hires - Loeffler to BGSU, Tom Arth (who had a losing record at Chattanooga a pretty good FCS program) to Akron, and Northern Illinois hired a running backs coach

I agree. He may not light up the world, but his name and brand is bringing a lot of attention there. If he can show some success, he may be able to building something decent there. Kansas would be beyond ecstatic for 8-10 win seasons in the future.

Huh?

Andersen turned Utah st around from one of the absolute worst fbs programs (at one point they were as bad as new mex st and Idaho) into respectability, culminating with a dominant season in 2012 before he left to Wisconsin.

Wells took over and Utah st faded back into mediocrity prior to fielding a strong team last season. Wells and Utah st were under .500 in the 3 previous.

Worst: Locksley at Maryland. This will be "Taggart at FSU" bad and will not go beyond 2-3 years.
