Strange Baylor going with a defensive coach.

It’s especially strange going with a DC who isn’t theirs. He was rumored to have a lot of support to be promoted from the fanbase and within the program.

Also strange that they would hire a defensive coach who isn’t known as a big recruiter. I’m not going to say Aranda can’t, but he showed little interest in it and let his staff handle most of it.

He's gonna take. Munoz with him as OC

I highly doubt that. Not if he’s being offered the role Brady had for a MUCH higher profile program. Now if O doesn’t offer him that position, I could see it.

It's much more important that your assistants are capable recruiters. The assistants are who recruits will interact with most once they're on the team.

As a coordinator, yes. As a head coach though, you need to be the closer, or at least capable of it. You are the guy who sells the parents and is the ultimate authority. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts to that.

so that will be interesting because he would be there first defensive minded head coach

Yeah. That’s false.

Chris Klieman at Kansas State was a DC.

Gary Patterson at TCU was a DC.

Both Matt Wells at Texas Tech and Matt Campbell at Iowa State emphasize it.

I’m not a Rhule fan now for sure, but if we promote from in I’d say Bill Busch if he doesn’t follow Aranda. What a mess winning has caused. Dammit.

Matt Rhule is defensive coach. BU defense was best in big 12.

Hopefully Baylor understands that its a stepping stone for him....i wouldnt be surprised if Aranda (with success) is at USC within 4 years

Aranda isn't a people person. He's is going to be miserable being a head coach and because he is inevitably going to be miserable, I don't foresee him having success as a head football coach.

Baylor fans are learning that now. We haven’t lost a coach for a good reason in like 50+ years. It’s a little easier for us to understand given Rhule getting 60 million guaranteed.

Now having said that, if he does well at Baylor he might get an even better job than USC.
