No chance. Elite coordinators are not exactly known to flock to Saban's boot camp. Saban typically hires young and eager guys looking to work hard and make a name for themselves. Chryst will be a HC next.

That's disingenuous to the fact that the 2001 LSU offense set school and conference records in passing and receiving. That team averaged almost 300 YPG through the air. Regardless, my previous statements were to illustrate that Nick Saban has had offenses that tailored to his talent. He doesn't just fite square pegs into round holds, in attempt at "three yards and a cloud of dust". This is all to say that Alabama can succeed on offense post-McElwain, even if it is Mike Groh at the helm. His lack of success at Virginia isn't going to play into whether he succeeds at Alabama. Of course, this all my be conjecture, and Saban goes in another direction.

mcelwain wasn't long for that staff once pendry left. Pendry was the only one who would stand up to Nick's meddling and tell him to get out of the offensive room.

It was no secret he wanted to take the next step. He's 50 years old, and his kids are both now in college. He has interviewed for openings every year he has been at Alabama. Can't we leave the "re-match" bullshite to the other boards. Just because an Alabama coach is leaving for a promotion doesn't make it necessary to flame.

He was never at Georgia. He was the OC at Virginia from 2006-2008. He was a graduate assistant at Alabama in 2009. He was a WR coach at Louisville in 2010, and came back to Alabama this season to coach WRs.

I actually take a stance of wait and see, before considering a hypothetical hire as a failure. I mean, Gary Crowton was the next best thing after 2007.

I think most bama fans do not want to see Saban hire Mike Groh, but I am not one of those guys. I think being the OC at uva and bama are not the same at all, not even close. I think has been planning Jmac leaving for two years and that is why I think it will be a inside hire. Also Billy Napier is on the off field coaching staff at bama and he was the OC at Clemson until Dabo fired him. So, in my thinking it will either be Groh or Napier both young, both ex playcallers, both great recruiters and both have been fired. Bama is going to run bamas O, which is a one back three wide set or a one back two tight end set most of the time. By the way being fired as a football coach means little. Bill Bellcheck,Pete Carrol,and Brue Arians (OC steelers) were all fired and many more great coaches. I think Groh will be our next OC. JMO

If Billy Napier were to be an on the field coach for Bama and be able to recruit, that's a huge addition. He is a lights out recruiter, although Saban apparently doesn't need any help.

I would rather have Saban take over the playcalling duties if the next guy in line is Mike Groh. It's not that unprecedented. Bill Parcells was a defensive coach who took over playcalling duties from Charlie Weis when he was with the Jets. Bill Belichick has been heavily involved with the Patriots offense for years. As you mentioned earlier, 2001 LSU had a wide open offense. However, 2001 LSU wasn't the only time Saban was aggressive on offense. When he was with the Dolphins, they finished in the top 10 in passing attempts both years. Alabama will be much more balanced on offense than people think.

2000-2001 LSU had to outscore opponents. We didn't have the depth or talent on defense yet. Most of it was still being developed.
