What are the chances that our new DC brings in his own people for dbacks, lbs, and line?

Do all shortcomings fall on the DC or should some of the blame be passed on to the position coaches? I've heard bad things about Lolley, Roof coached our lbs, and Pelton is no Rocker....

What say you?

Lolley is a really good coach. I believe he has been having some health problems this year (not 100% sure on that) and I think he may step down at the end of the season.

Too early to tell on Pelton. We had two upperclassmen in the rotation this year.

I would prefer the new DC to be a secondary coach and for Thigpen to move back to coaching LBs.
And it wouldn't bother me if Lolley "took time off" and went back into an administrative role.

The new position coach could either be on the secondary or coach DEs and let Pelton stick with DTs.

ETA: 2009 d-line recruiting killed us this year. What a disappointment 4* J. Travis has been.

What he said only it would bother me if Lolley didn't go back to his administrative role.

Would really like a DC that coaches the secondary and move Thig to linebackers, I think we hire Joe Whitt jr, so I see that happening.

If it's Shannon he coach's linebackers.

Stoops coach's the defensive secondary.

Jlee was talking about the possibility of Joe Whitt Jr as DC and Kevin Greene LB coach, and moving Lolley to an admin role

I'm on the fence with this.
I'm unsure on how good a coordinator Whitt will be. I have confidence in his recruiting and cornerback coaching ability.
And still not sure how good of a coach Greene is. He's only coached for 3 years. And has zero experience in college.

Have you seen this video?

Joe Whitt Jr knows his X/Os and would be a great hire IMO. He keeps getting mentioned every time the DC position opens up, so it feels inevitable that he'll come back to Auburn eventually.

If we hire Greene and Whitt JR, I wonder if we will move to a 3-4...

Wonder what the hiring timeline would be with JWJ or Greene? Both will want to finish out their season with GB, especially with the team undefeated, but Auburn can't exactly wait until after signing day to hire a DC. I guess they could announce the hires and let them finish out their season, but I don't know if our defensive recruits would like that too much. The recruits need to know the coach/system they're committing their next 4 years to playing under.

I think we would still run a base 4-3 but we would definitley run a lot of different formations IMO.

for shits and grins, what would an Auburn 3-4 look like?

Odd Front:
NG - jeff whitaker
DT - ken carter
DT - Nosa Eguea

Strongside LB - Ladarius Owens
Weakside LB - Corey Lemonier

Middle LBs - Jake Holland & Johnathon Evans

CBs - Bell(if healthy), Davis, Mincy
Safeties - Florence & McNeil

We don't have the size or depth up the middle to run a 3-4... Holland is undersized, and our other two LBs with experience are both undersized.

We just don't have the personnel to run this scheme.

And it'll be a real bear to get the personnel with bama and ga recruiting the same types.

Middle LBs - Rah-Rah White & Craig Sanders

Gabe at NT. Blackson at DE.
Ford at Weakside LB. Delanie at Strongside LB.

The biggest problem is the undersized LBs will have no position. The other problem is the lack of a true NG. I think everyone else could be shuffled to a position that fits.

Scott Reeves just posted that Joe Whitt Jr is the front runner with Kevin Greene as LB coach.

I bet it's going to be Joe Whitt Jr. Pat Dye is really talking him up. If this is true, how do you think they will handle the timing. If they wait untill after the NFL season, how are they going to help recruiting? I believe this is what is going to happen. If Chizik was going to hire Shannon or Stoops, I think that he would have made the announcement by now and brought them on board. Chizik serving as DC for the bowl lends credence to the Whitt Jr. Theory.

Don't know much about him, other than he's with the Pac. I'm assuming he's a 4-3 guy, right?

Whitt Jr. has been tutored by Dom Capers at GB. Don't they run a 3-4? I am almost certain they do.
