Aside from the coaching aspect, can Briles recruit?

I didn't follow Baylor recruiting very closely so I have no clue.

Yes. Half of his team left, and Baylor was still a good team this year.

He used to be able to; but I don't think he can anymore.

First off- the stigma will hover around him, and a lot of "decent" players and their families will not like that.

Second- he brought in, apparently, a pretty large amount of thugs who could play. I don't see that type of guy being recruited here, especially after what happened at Baylor.

Seriously- he's heavily tainted right now. No sane program that gives him a chance will let him bring anyone with character questions in. The risk is too great to the program.
Conversely, I definitely could see him being viewed negatively by families, for the same reason.

He might know his stuff, but you'd get a very limited amount of recruits you'd allow him to bring in, that he could get.
