11/13 Update: Taking Gruden off and adding Eric Morris per Nakos’ article today. Also taking off Joey McGuire as he recently said he’s “going to die a Red Raider.”

Possibly Realistically Possible Candidates:
1. Alex Golesh (USF HC)
2. Jon Sumrall (Tulane HC)
3. Ryan Silverfield (Memphis HC)
4. Eric Morris (North Texas HC)

Wildcards:
1. James Franklin (fired from PSU)
2. PJ Fleck (Minn HC)
3. Matt Campbell (ISU)
4. Gus Malzahn (FSU OC)

Do What Now:
1. Mike Gundy (fired from OSU - reportedly interested)

Off The Board:
Rhett Lashlee (SMU HC - signed extension)
Bobby Petrino (too many losses as interim - officials have it out for him too)
John Gruden (not being considered per Nakos)
Joey McGuire (recently voiced strong commitment to Texas Tech)

I don't see Joey McGuire being successful outside of the State of Texas. He was a HS coach there. That's his recruiting base. I don't know if that translates anywhere else.

I can't see Franklin in Fayetteville. Talk about culture shock.

Per insiders he’s our 1a,b,c target. Lots of dabo smoke out there lately too. Think Golesh is our fall back and hope no one else snags him or we’ll be stuck with Silverfield.

James Franklin was at the Blessings yesterday. At least that is what some sights are saying. I also hate to say Fun Bobby was never a candidate.
If his ego wouldn't get in the way, I would love to see him go somewhere like Louisiana Tech, and just see what he could do.

11/14: According to Arkansas’ radio guy, Chuck Barrett, “James Franklin is not going to be the head coach of the Razorbacks. I believe that, all along, he was never a candidate. It's always been wishful thinking.” LINK

Not taking Franklin off the board yet, but he’s hanging by a thread.

Take it with a grain of salt, but AU people are saying he has campaigned hard for the AU job, but he isn't at the top of Cohen's list.

If they could keep Petrino and Franklin, that'd be wild for Arkansas.

But I don't think any big name coach wants that snake in their locker room.

Supposedly our short list has been the same from the start. Franklin was still employed at that point. He may have emerged as a target after getting fired. But we’ve never hired the guy the media runs with as the front runner. Going back countless searches, multiple sports and 3 AD’s.

Came from somewhere above Chuck, but what’s the real behind the scenes story? Did Franklin just flat out say “I’m never taking this job, even if my first options never offer?” Or has Franklin already landed a more preferred job? Or has Franklin just refused to commit to Arkansas, wanting to see how things unfold at other places, and Arkansas is now like “we aren’t going to wait forever, we are moving on” or at least trying to send that signal out to get Franklin to commit? Coaching searches can be very fluid and take weird turns. No one would be shocked if Arkansas ended up hiring Franklin, so until he is announced somewhere else or we get a second source saying he’s not coming, I’m keeping him on the board for now.

My current theory: Arkansas admin is trying to lower expectations to make a PJ Fleck hire appear like a huge win. I personally think he would be a good hire, but I don’t think the fan base as a whole would get super excited about it unless expectations are lowered, and even then still won’t be an easy sell.

I assume he prefers to stay on the east coast, still think VT is the heavy favorite. He’s a dmv guy.

Not a far-fetched theory at all. I personally have always thought a lot of Fleck. I think he would do well at Arkansas. Similar hire to Nutt minus the Arkansas ties.
I don't hate it.... I really don't.

11/17: Taking Franklin off the board - all signs point to VTech. Adding Pat Fitzgerald as this article confirms Arkansas interviewed him. Also adding Kane Womack - I haven’t seen any actual reporting of him being considered but he went to Arkansas and there’s been rumblings on the webz that he’s being considered. Also adding Bob Chesney - like Womack I haven’t seen any reporting saying he’s being considered, but he really should be and if VTech got their guy it seems like Arkansas could be a player there. The linked article says there’s reports of mutual interest between Chesney and UCLA.
