Nix equals average recruiter. He's good when he cares and may have just been lazy because he made 500k/yr and was with Nutt who obviously was on a retirement plan.

He's also, from what I've seen, a poor evaluator. A lot of the defensive guys he's went after never panned out or were character risks.

He's also not that good of a play caller. Our defense, too many times, showed their blitzed too early, it was picked up, then picked apart. Coaching was pretty terrible on signals to the field, too many timeouts called, etc.

He also tried to implement a 4-2-5, bad call on that one.

They continually blamed their defensive problems on youth. Whose fault was that?

If we hire Nix for something other than position coach I'm going into a drunkin stuper.

the fact that you're hanging your hat on the spread option should have you concerned with your own team

These two kinda go hand in hand.

We WERE young on defense last year and fairly thin at LB. We were fairly deep at DBs so that's why we went to the 425 D. Also because Jackson, Garbutt, and a few others didn't have the body of a pure Safety or LB so they played the hybrid position.

and yes....being thin and young does fall on the people recruiting. Just can't fault him for trying to implement a hybrid LB/S position.

Well we already run a 4-2-5 so he can just slide right in there.

I agree, though I thought they should've just converted Jackson to an OLB during the spring anyway and ran the 4-3 with Bryant, Marry, and Jackson.

I also recall several plays (one specifically against Arkansas) where we had the offense stopped and it was 3rd and very long and we gave up a huge run for the first down. Nix seemed to me just very unorganized and relied on Peria Jerry, Greg Hardy, Kendrick Lewis, Patrick Trhan, Marshay Green, Kentrell Lockett (pre-ACL), Jerrell Powe, Ashlee Palmer, Emmanuel Stephens, Jamarca Samford, Cassius Vaughn, etc. I think any defensive coordinator would've looked good with those guys.

Yeah, two years ago I would have been happy to have Nix become our DC, but the last two years have proven what he's able (or not able) to do with players he's recruited and coached up.

we tried. But he didn't get big enough to be a pure OLB so that's why he played the hybrid role. Too slow for an efficient safety. Too small for a pure OLB.

(I blame Decker for that.)

Yeah, uhhh Arky? You know that whole "State hasn't beat anyone in the west besides Ole Miss" thing? Yeah, that's pretty much because of Tyrone "never read a message board he wouldn't show a recruit" Nix. Just sayin...

There's some good truth to this.

Nix is completely to blame for losing to a bad MSU team in 2009.
