re: Anyone else feel like hiring CEO is going back to pre-Saban way of doing things?

Is LSU beats Bama, I'm on that bandwagon.
There is no such thing as the perfect coach. Saban had his bad days at LSU.
The key is finding the right guy who will fit LSU the best. One who hires the best assistants, recruits, coaches and prepares the best at LSU. In other words we need a guy to fit the culture of Louisiana.

If he beats Bama Saturday the consensus will shift bigly his way.

Trying to remember the last interim head coach who LSU was able to test drive during the most difficult part of its schedule to know exactly what it was getting.
Nope, none come to mind. So, in answer to your question, no.

Should have hired Hal Hunter instead of Saban. Brilliant.

Hal Hunter coached one game--the last game of the season--against a fading Arkansas team, genius.

CEO has beaten Missouri, Southern Miss, and a fading Ole Miss team...not exactly murderers row.
And certainly not a reason to turn over the program to a coach literally no one else wants.
Point is, interim coach doesn't equal head coach material whether it be Hal Hunter or Ed Orgeron.

No one's turning over any keys to a coach who's beaten only Missouri, Southern Miss, and Ole Miss (a team, by the way, which should be nothing to sneeze at despite the record).
Now add Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, and A&M and you'd have to be an idiot not to draw up the contract.

Point is, you'd have a football coach who has proven himself where it matters most--in the SEC on the football field. Add to that the fact that Orgeron is an elite recruiter and position coach who has connections to big-time coaches.
I mean, WTF else could you look for in a head coach? That's as sure a thing as you can get. I don't care how hot another coaching name is, you just never know how that coach is going to adjust to handling the reigns at a new program--especially one with a culture as unique and passionate as LSU. This worry about hiring a local boy is about as paranoid as the Miles pumpers who were paralyzed with worry about replacing Miles for fear of the next coach being unsuccessful.

How old are you? I grew up watching archer, halman and denardo. If you are comparing what O has done to what they have done then you didnt watch those games, dont remember the losing seasons or are just trying to be cleaver.
Do you honostly watch LSU right now and have less hope than when miles was coach?
The bama game will tell a lot about is ability to game plan. 2nd half will tell the most with his ability to make adjustments.
If he beats bama will you still think hes 2nd tier?

Only LSU fans will throw a temper tantrum over beating the #1 team in front of their home crowd.
no one would actually do this.
Several, including myself would be justifiably upset if we hired a guy that would not be considered at any other major program because of something as short sighted as beating the #1 team at home. Hell Curly freaking Hallman beat the #5 team on the road when they were on like a 30-0-1 run.
There is more to running a successful major program and competing that top level that winning a few games as an interim coach and pulling off a big upset.

My freshman year was 1987, Mike Archer's first as HC. We went 10-1-1, finished #5, which was LSU's highest final ranking between 1970-2002. We also had a sophomore all SEC QB but the next 2 years went in the tank. Even bad coaches can have a great year, we are judging a guy on 3 games and the possibility of what could happen Saturday.

Gene Chizik WON the National Title
