ULM has the lowest budget in FBS. McNeese probably isn't too far behind them in total athletic budget. And given the fan bases, McNeese can probably drum up more booster support than ULM can.

You are severely overestimating the support the McNeese football program gets from the school and community (boosters, fans etc.). Viator would triple his salary with a move to ULM.

they better not outbid for Viator. Let his arse go. Hasn't won a playoff game in 10 years, routinely gets destroyed by Sam Houston and southeastern (this years regular season aside).

NO playoff wins and twice they were undefeated in the regular season and got beat. He routinely goes 7-4 or 8-5 between the good seasons. I think only 3 playoff appearances in those ten years(might be 4).

LET him go.

Candidates are confirming what I've been saying. President Bruno won't commit to helping @ULM_FB succeed. Until he does, ULM is a graveyard

.@ULMWarhawks have two choices: Make a commitment or drop the program. FCS not an option. And I don't think the President cares enough.

viator has done great things at mcneese.

be careful what you wish for, remember that you can only get so good of a coach for 100k a year

i think those undefeated years were a little inflated due to a favorable schedule and weak conference

Problem is, they don't have the money to make a commitment to the program. And they can't drop it, because those arse-whippings they take from Bama and UGA pay for the other sports.

Bruno's been great for academics here but he needs to get off of his high horse with the athletics programs.

I agree. I just don't see ULM paying a football coach more than 300-400K a year, at the very most because of the budget constraints. The next coach MAY be at the 300K level, with incentives, but if the coach perceives that the administration isn't supportive and he'll have to battle them during his tenure, I doubt any quality person would want to do that. It's almost guaranteed that the loss record will be 3 or 4 games every year and having to play, and recruit, against better funded programs is yet another negative for the program.

ULM doesn't have the oil money of ULL nor the Davison money of Tech, so I don't see a source of support for the program which will make a significant difference in the funding.

Here's an example of what a new coach is going to have to deal with.....

"With the lowest athletic budget, it comes as no surprise that the ULM coaching staff also works with the lowest recruiting budget, according to a report obtained by USA Today and Indiana University's National Sports Journalism Center.

With other schools topping out in the six figures, ULM spends a reported $36,761 on its recruiting expenses."

Yes but they do have 2 members on the Board of Directors who are worth personally a few hundred million dollars and ones family is probably worth a Billion.

With that much money, seems that they could throw a few hundred thousand into the athletics coffer. They'd never miss it.
