O cleaned house at the end of 2020 but didn't fire Cregg that tells you all you need to know about Cregg

Cloud that not possibly be for the only reason that O doesn’t want to further disrupt OL recruiting until after NSD?

Don't get me wrong, on two fronts:

1. I think Cregg is one of the better OL coaches; not the best by any means but quite good.

2. His recruiting definitely needs to improve. I really do like what I'm seeing on the field. And he's a good "offseason coach" which is a must for both sides of the ball trenches.

Cregg is not the only OL recruiter. Coaches typically focus on an area, and position coaches are not always the lead recruiters.
This is true... BUT, I think one of the reasons he (or LSU as a whole) is struggling somewhat in OL recruiting is that Cregg needs to both be more aggressive and impactful with his OL priorities in the Ops Building.

A) In the grand scheme of things a coaching staff (at this level) sort of runs like a corporation where each head of a dept/fiefdom will always fight for his dept stronger than the whole. If Cregg isn't adamat about his numbers or certain recruits another coach who is will get his guy further up on the list of 25 priorities. Simply put, he needs to push harder for his recruits.

B) If he doesn't have big enough fish on the hook, you can't do (a) above very effectively. If a LB coach says he has a stud 5* pass rush OLB on the hook and Cregg has a high 3* OT that's not sure-fire and you get in a numbers crunch they'll go for that special talent almost everytime. It's impossible for them to resist.

That's the #1 (maybe #2) reason you see an Arkansas (under Petrino) not recruit D players worth a shite. Or a defensive rooted HC not be able to get stud WRs. The coaches roots, which side of the ball, will come into play when you get into such crunches. Orgeron is obviously a D guy; if Cregg doesn't fight in those offices Orgeron will always be biased towards stud D even when the numbers say a project offensive player is warranted. Coaches can't help themselves.

In addition, LA had a down year for OL recruits. I don’t think a single OL in the state went to a Power 5 program. Looks like 2022 will have some 4 and 5 stars on the OL in LA. That should boost Creggs recruiting.

2020 and 2021 were horrible for OL recruiting in Louisiana, so LSU was hit with two years of bad in-state recruiting on the line.

Sedrick Van Pran was the only OL recruit in the past two seasons to rank in the Top 25 players in the state.

We should've signed him, yes. But when players are adamant about leaving the state from Day 1, it's hard to blame the coaches.

Lastly a bad or a young QB can make an O line look bad. Brennan get injured and we had to play with two 18 year old QB's

Myles struggled behind that line as well and would have struggled more against better defenses mid season.

Or. OR (and I'm just spitballing here) he was a new starter and would have improved as he gained starting experience.
